Johnny's new happy place

It was Sunday morning. We were all in the barn trying to stay out of the melting snow and mud.
JohnnyCashCat sensed that everyone was pretty mellow and came out of the feed room to join us.
I picked him up and held him across my shoulder as I was scratching George's butt with my other hand.
Johnny got bored after awhile and took a little walk...

....out of my arms and right across George's back.

George had long ago taught Deets to ride bareback and didn't seem to mind his new passenger.

Johnny was surprisingly calm when Alan got up in his face.

No words were exchanged that I could hear, but Johnny must have muttered something to get Alan to back off.

Judging by how loudly Johnny was purring, I figured he'd ride along for as long as George would let him.

Me: If you're going to sit up there, let me show you the proper technique for burro butt scratching.

Johnny's a fast learner.

He also figured out a very clever way to dismount. I'll save those pictures for tomorrow.

Me: Hey, Johnny, look over here for a second.

Johnny: What are you laughing at?

  1. What an amazing set of photos! That is usually the kind of scenario that when you grab the camera, everyone heads for the hills. That last one is just PERFECT! Thanks for starting my Monday with a laugh!

  16. That is hilarious. It's wonderful to see how much he has settled in to the family and is trusting more. Johnny hit the jackpot when he moved to the 7MSN.

  17. Feral. Yeah. Not so much. George needed a cat.

  18. All I can say is that it was true destiny when Johnny Cash Cat came to 7MSN. He totally belongs there with all of you!!

  19. Oh, what a hoot! Johnny Cashcat is quite something. You're going to have to come up w/ a new moniker for him .. somehow, I don't think "feral beast" fits him any longer! :)

  20. And someone thought he was a ferral barn cat? They just didn't know he needed his true family. So glad he found them to love.
    So love the cadonkey photo!

  24. I cannot believe that you could 'see' those ears lining up through your camera lens. I'm so happy that JC has found a warm spot to sit and can reciprocate by giving butt scratches. :)

  27. Well, that looks like a win/win for both parties. Nothing beats sharing a little body heat and the butt scratch, well, that's a bonus. Johnny's fitting in very nicely there, I can see.

That last shot though! Oh my gawd. Tell me that's going in next year's calendar! xoxo

  28. All is well at the 7MSN. Love. And we are having a better day for knowing it . . . and seeing it. There's something about different species co-habiting that makes the world feel right. Becky

  38. Carson - Every once in a very great while, a cat comes along that is SOMETHING. SPECIAL. I have been loving seeing Johnny's determination and intelligence. The fact that he is here with you now is no accident. The "cosmic dating service" sure got it right! His story is an awesome thing to watch unfold.

Totally off the topic of awesome and amazing orange kittehs - was perusing an old post of yours and saw Lucy's anchor brand. Don't know if your friend ever followed up on researching that
info for you, but a few months ago I read that wild burros captured at the China Lake Naval Weapons Station, located between the Mojave desert and Death Valley in So. Calif, are given that brand. I wish I could re-find the link - I've spent some time googling this a.m. and have struck out.

  41. There is definitely a new hierarchy at the 7MSN. No question after these photos. Next up for Johnny, a ride in the four wheel drive cart...right up there next to Smooch. What do you think? Johnny is just blowing through all the possibilities so quickly. Maybe the day bed will be the practice spot before the cart trip!!!
