A whole lotta bull

My BBF (best bull friend) was waiting for me when I returned home from my last trip to town. "Big O" was resting
under a tree with his girlfriend, or so I presumed. Of course I stopped to say hello and take pictures.

His magnificence stops me in my tracks every time I see him,

which is not a good thing because I become oblivious to everything that's going on around me...

...like his girlfriend, who was really his boyfriend, who got up and started walking toward me.
Good thing a shrub is covering most of his bull parts in the photo above - Blogger would likely have censored it otherwise.

I've learned my lesson about cattle confrontations, so I ran like hell and jumped into took refuge in my truck.

Didn't want another one of these!

My BBF's BFF came over to the passenger side window to have a little chat.

I think he may have been jealous of all the attention I was giving to Big O.
I didn't stick around to find out.

  1. Without even seeing his bull parts I can see that he's one. It boy! Yikes!

  2. It's Horn Envy. If you only had little stumps and had to look at those magnificent, curvy things all day, you'd be pissed off, too.

  3. I noticed the lack of "girl parts" in the first photo and though, "Oh-oh...time to leave well enough alone. And his bull friend, too!"

  4. I guess that, being left out on the range to fend for themselves for the season, they don't stay . . . erm . . . tame-ish, huh?

  5. Safety first!

Perhaps he was hoping to mooch a few groceries? Bovines soon learn to associate trucks with food or he could have been territorial. In which case - RETREAT is a good move.

--- by the way, the second picture made it pretty clear he wasn't a heifer ;)

  7. The boy with the tiny horns probably wants watermelon! Those horns on BBF are incredible.

  8. Perfect day for a perfect post. And I never tire of your marvelous color chart.

  9. Getting away the superb choice. Bulls not to be messed with. Young ones are likely erratic and spoiling for a chance to prove themselves. Bar fights come to mind, with huge bodies and no bars.

  10. Those who retreat get to live another day eh!

  11. I noticed those "Hangy down things" one of the first photos as well. But it was the look in the eye that really told the story to me. Most cows have a much softer eye. This guy looks down right rank!

  12. !! These are NOT behind a fence!! ???

Yes, handsome ... anything for that perfect shot, I guess! :)

  13. I so look forward to your posts every day. My life is so absolutely boring in comparison. (Actually not even in comparison. It would be boring regardless.)
    Thank you!

  14. Now tell us where to find the story of the multi-colored eye!

Now I can see why you ranchers are always in a pick-up or on a horse when you are out moseying around.

    Scary boys!

I wouldn't be messing around with long horn bulls or any bulls. They get down right mean. Good thing you stayed in the truck to take the photos. I knew the black one was a bull just by the build and the horn nubs.

  16. I had to click on your hilites and go back to read both earlier posts for fear I had missed them first time around. Re post 1 - I'd say Big O's horns have really grown! Ostentatiously so! Oncredibly so! And post 2 - OUCH!

  17. With a bull that big, I think I would call him "Sir"!

  18. I'd say you had a lot of B_lls ( or long hangy things) get out and take a photo!

  19. Very striking but from a distance.

  20. Where was Smouch, in the truck?

  21. A truly gorgeous longhorn. I wouldn't imagine many people have the opportunity to see one... in person ... out in the middle of nowhere ... with nothing between you and him ... armed only with a camera and courage aplenty. He is absolutely magnificent. He definitely deserves a name!

I keep looking at his picture. Can you imagine an old West stampede withsome of those guys leading the charge?1

  22. That's one mighty hunk of beef! It's a wonder he didn't ram the truck.

  23. I forgot about your multi-colored eye until you reminded us :-/ I'm sorry, don't be mad... but I am seriously laughing out loud! You color descriptions are absolutely hysterical! You should be a stand-up comic. Seinfeld has nothing on you!
