Not so silent Sunday

My mind has been muddled with too many thoughts lately and I've got to dump them somewhere to make way for new ones.

Four months ago, it cost me $107 to fill up my truck. Yesterday, it cost me $61. Huh?

It's 6:30 in the morning and I'm wide awake and the sun is shining. This was not the case yesterday. I'm all for change, but not this kind.

I lived in Washington, DC for 15 years and developed a deep distain for politics, politicians, and pundits. So why am I watching Anderson Cooper and Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann and Campbell Brown and even Larry King, for god's sake, every stinkin' day? Why do I care so much about this presidential election when I slept through the last eight? Judging by the early voting turnouts and number of new voter registrations, I'm not the only one.

Being president of the United States has got to be the worst job in the world, bar none. What kind of person would want that kind of responsibility? Just look at the before and after pictures.

The Washington Post reminded me this morning that "Sometime late into Tuesday evening, many Americans will feel like losers." Say nothing of the candidate who doesn't get elected. Their advice is to learn from the experience, and not do something drastic, say move to France.

I'm hosting an election-results-watching party here Tuesday night – for just me and Smooch, of course, but I'm making a special dinner and bought a nice bottle of wine. This is a big deal.

For now, I'm going to saddle up my horse on this gorgeous, sunny morning and think about where his feet are going instead of where the country might be going. Some things I can control.

  1. I have enough responsibility taking care of my family. There is no way I'd want to be president!

Horseback riding sounds like just the cure! Since I'm lacking a horse, I think I'll go finish a quilt!

  2. Hi! So glad we found each others blogs. Beautiful photo, and good plan. It's a lovely day here too and I'm going to enjoy it. :-)

  3. Have a great ride! Your election night party sounds wild! Don't let Smooch have all the wine ;)

  4. Can I join your party? I don't even think I want to watch the election results...I just want the wine and ambiance. Will know the results soon enough...can't stand all the political stuff right now.

  7. Hey, Linda - wish I was there to ride with that mountain in the distance! Enjoy the day. Daughter is hauling Cody to a Pony Club thing so she'll get to ride out some too.

  8. I always wonder why someone would want to be president too. What a rotten job. Anyway, I hope everyone gets out there to vote, it's important this time more than ever. Glad you had a nice ride, great pictures.

  9. I know just what you mean, I'm already thinking about what I'm going to do with myself once this is over. It could be worse than a breakup! Well, we shall see what happens - and thanks for the idea; think I'll go pick up a bottle of wine tomorrow.

  10. Ahhhh...I am so nervous for Wednesdays results that I can hardly stand it!

Mostly because I am really worried that my candidate is not going win...you know, the whole "Bradly Effect" thingy. :)

  11. I will probably watch old movies, go to bed and read and then wake up on Wednesday and go on with my life regardless of who wins.

I will vote, though. I want the right to criticize and that right comes with the vote.

    Great picture.

  12. Hi,
I found your blog recently and like it so much.

I'm with you on the election--seems like everyone is engaged this time. After I vote, I want to keep my eyes closed and ears plugged until the results are announced, though. I can't take the suspense! Next election, I'll have a horse to go ride, too, and that will be nice.

    Cheers to you and Smooch!

  13. Regardless of the election outcome, we shouldn't worry about change. At the rate the government moves, everything may be the same in four years. No matter who wins, I'm glad there is interest and participation.

  14. I so agree with you! Despite presidents that have not been my favorite or those that others constantly rip apart or make fun of....I do feel for them. It is impossible to be in that position and not be criticized, hated, or ridiculed. It just comes with the job. If you can call it a job! Unlike any other, for sure.
Yes, I saw gas for 2.39 a gallon! I remember the panic about gas being $5-6 by the end of summer! Now it's almost down to where people said "it'd never go under $2 again." Huh? It almost is! Maybe a little media-panic and hype? Happens all the time....regardless, I wish that hay prices would go down too!!

  15. I'm glad you got your tank full. My sister and I feel the prices will rise again after tomorrow. I hope not.
I awoke after the sun rose this morning, too. That is not acceptable.
After this election is totally over I'll try to stay away from most pundits, but not Rachel or Keith :)

  16. Gas prices, if you remember, go down right before the election, as though we would forget how we are being gouged and will vote differently. After elections, i expect that the price will shoot right back up again so that they can fill their pockets at our expense.
You see, you have a much healthier outlook - go for a ride - it is much better than stewing over what these folks will try to do to us next.

  17. Finally! Someone who sees the job of being president/prime minister the same way as I do! So many people complain about the terrible job our Prime minister is doing, but I think he's holding up a lot better than I'd be able to do!
