It was a dark and stormy morning

It was Monday morning around 7. I was supposed to be doing chores
but elected to take pictures first, before the rain moved in.

There was so much lightning that even without coffee in my system,
I was able to catch a bolt now and then.

Me: You two had better get in the barn. It's not safe out here.

 Me: See what I mean?

Johnny: You don't have to tell me twice.

I took my own advice and ran back in the house. So much for morning chores.
I got inside just in time to hear the phone ring – it was one of those reverse 911 calls
warning me about the weather, which convinced me that the storm was indeed as bad as it looked.
But it moved through quickly and nothing terrible happened.

The pasture puddled in the usual places.

George was a little shell-shocked from his least favorite noise,
hail on the metal barn roof.

Johnny didn't mind the hail, judging by how much fun he seemed to have eating it.

As she does with most things, Lucy took it all in stride.

Alan kept a lookout for the next storm to move through.

He didn't have to wait long.

    1. The call came from the county government. It was the first time I ever got one so maybe it's a new service.

  7. Very scary but cool looking clouds..
Hank looks fine as usual and I almost couldn't see beautiful Johnny in the one pic, he blends in with the dirt. Those storms are so intimidating, aren't they?

  8. I think that storm went through here. It looked like it snowed, with all of the hail. I forgot to close the bedroom window and the comforter had a big puddle in the middle of it. S**t! I'm glad everything was ok there and Hank is still gorgeous.

  9. Is there anything that compares to New Mexico skies? Hopefully these will make it into your future coffee table book. Aunt Jean

  10. Phenomenal photos! Those storm clouds look a bit too impressive for my taste, if not downright hostile. Wild!! Glad everyone is fine there.
(In the first picture, Hank looked tense, stressed, or in pain to me, so I'm glad that Ethel said "Hank looks fine as usual" - sigh of relief.)

    1. Hank was tense - I'm sure he was feeling my stress over the impending doom.

    2. Oh, of course. No wonder! Just seeing the pictures is scary enough for me. The last one looks like a cloud tsunami, and the lightnings look like they would give the earth a good shake...

  11. This is why I need to get out of this piece of crap valley I live in....nothing ever exciting happens weather wise or anything else wise. I got my new government computer background picture up! Thanks for the awesome photos.

  12. Amazing shots and the lightning is one of those things I try to get and never quite manage. We've had some doozy storms in Arizona too

Wow, fabulous pictures! Are your buildings grounded in any way? I remember when most buildings had lightning rods but they don't seem to exist anymore and when I hear about houses getting hit by lightning and starting fire I am always wondering if the rods would have helped. Must check with Google :)

  14. Tense or not, Hank is gorgeous in the 1st photo! (Gorgeous anyhow.) I'll join the general chorus about how great the pics are altogether. Wow. Glad the storm hung out long enough for a few portraits & moved on without damage. I suppose the new chickies weren't bothered?
