Thursday is the new Friday

Happiness is a three-day weekend...times 18. When you work for the same company for as long as I have (19 years!), you get a lot of vacation time. And when you live on a ranch with a bunch of animals, you tend not to take long vacations and end up with a lot of unused vacation time. If I don't use up mine by mid-September, I will lose it, and that would be a travesty. So starting today, I am taking the next 18 Fridays off.

I don't have any big plans for how I will spend all this extra free time. I'm sure that Lucy and I will go for many long rides. I may go to Trader Joe's more often. Maybe I'll even take a few day trips. Today's big adventure is taking Smooch and JohnnyCashCat to the vet for their annual check-ups. Won't that be fun. At least this vet visit doesn't involve the horse trailer or pushing a crate full of pig into the truck.

The picture of Alan and George is from December 2007 and has nothing to do with this post, other than it makes me happier. I can't be certain because of the one little bush that's in the way, but I'm pretty sure all eight feet are off the ground.

  3. Yesterday I almost posted that you are the most reliable blogger I know of, and that you deserved a few days off now and then. I must have ESP. Enjoy!

  4. Fan-Tas-Tic idea! Enjoy your 4-day work week ;) ---> but enjoy those 3 days off even more!!.

I have sometimes used the built-up vacation pool in 1/2 day increments.
When its hot, I take the mornings off and go into work after lunch.

George and Alan look positively gleeful. Galloping for joy.

Now, as for today's adventure, this will be Johnny's first time in a vehicle since he arrived at the ranch ... and riding with Smooch !?!
Hope there are treats involved (for you too!).

  10. One of the best things about consistent 'days off' is not planning or knowing what you'll do! Just waking up into a free day is bliss! Doesn't mean it won't get filled with washing out food bins, moving hay bales, running errands ... just that you can do each of those things more slowly. Enjoy!

  11. Here's hoping JCC and Smooch have an uneventful trip to the vet - I think taking my cat to the vet is almost as stressful as when I had to take a piggies to the vet. And do enjoy those 18 three day weekends!

  13. The snowbirds have all left my town, so my job closes for the summer. We could meet half way and do something fun!

  14. Hope your ride with JCC and Smooch is uneventful. I have only to drive about 18 mi round trip to the vet and sometimes it's more than I can bear with a yowling cat or nervous nelly dog. Cowgirl on.
And I adore this picture of the longears flying. How joyful they look. Oma Linda

  15. Oh I LOVE 3 day weekends and take as many of them as I can during our "winter" because it is the best time to hike!

I do believe all 8 really are off the ground!

  16. Ha! I usually find I work harder on weekends than at the office! You'll probably take up a project like shoveling dirt, or rearranging the pig barn! Good luck! You will surely get yourself up to something!

  18. Three days off in a row, sounds about right. Hope JCC doesn't yowl all the way there and back like my boys. Smooch will just roll her eyes at you. Great pic of Alan and George leaping for joy.
