They didn't go quietly

I took Smooch and JohnnyCashCat to the vet on Friday for their annual exams and vaccinations.
Smooch is cool with going to the vet. I lie and tell her we're going to Sonic for ice cream and she hops right in the truck.
I wasn't sure how Johnny would react, this being his first road trip since his arrival at the ranch a year ago.
I doubted that he would go into his carrier willingly, so I let him in the house first thing in the morning
and closed him in the bathroom until it was time to go. He got to practice his yowling for a full hour.
Then I wrapped him in a towel, gently dropped him feet first into the upturned carrier, and presto!

He was in the carrier before he knew what happened, I didn't get scratched, and we were on our way.

Johnny: You tricked me.

The dog/cat vet is about a one-hour drive. Here is a short video that summarizes our trip.

We arrived at the clinic, exams were done, and shots were given. I have no pictures. My hands were full.
But Smooch and Johnny were both pronounced healthy and good to go for another year.
Except they didn't go...they stayed while I went off to run errands.
I can't be sure what went down in my three-hour absence, but my guess is Smooch did not sleep a wink
while confined in a crate at the clinic.

She tried her best but could not stay awake on the way home...

...and she crashed once we got there.

Smooch: What? I'm awake. I didn't miss a thing.

Smooch: Was that a nightmare or I did I just spend the day at the vet with that darned cat?

  2. I'm totally in love with your quilt in the sunroom. Where did you get it? It looks so perfect in the soft lighting.

    1. Sigfrid, I got the quilt at overstock.com, though I've seen the print elsewhere, too. It's called Blooming Prairie.

    2. Well i've got two quilts for my bed already but i so like your pictures i went and ordered Blooming Prairie from Amazon for 60$ sounds like a good deal. My bed room is pale green. I'll let you knowhow it matches... If it's anywhere close to your pics it will be great. Thanks! Brigitte (i don't have a Smooch to preen on it but I've got four cats. They should make up for it. :) )

  4. Great! A preview of my trip on Wed when I take the "Twin Sisters from different misters and different mothers" to the vet. One benefit...we have only a half hr drive. Hoping they'll sleep on the drive back (must be the vaccines). They already sleep 23 1/2 hrs a day. Mick

  5. I think cats like Johnny fear that they are about to be dumped again. I had one who had been a rescue cat that on her first trip in a carrier to get her shots, she had tears running down her face. First time I knew a cat can cry. He probably felt very relieved when he got back to the ranch

  6. Yes I thought too, like Rain Trueax, that car drive = being abandonned for Johnny. I think that Smooch is talking/answering to him. this will be their first common shared experience. on the all, quiet smooth, Johnny is just meowing, nothing like the howlings cats can demonstrate

  8. The orange ones are talkers and, when justified, complainers. Poor Smooch, I hope she did get an ice cream or yogurt treat. Glad to read all are healthy.

  9. You can almost read Smooch's mind in the video "Dang it, she told me we were going to Sonic". How fast did Johnny CashCat leap out of his carrier when you opened the door at home?

  10. Poor babies. As a person who has had a 100 pound dog hugging me and a 15 pound yowling cat at the vet., you have my sympathy. And theirs. Goldarn pets.

  11. Have a vet visit in the next week or so. Vet close to home but how do I convince 80 pounds of quivering Lab mutt that there is nothing to worry about and he really does not have to climb up the inside of my pant leg?

  12. That video made me laugh out loud remembering my dog and being driven to edge of sanity in the car, especially when you was young. He actually Broke the Windshield once while bouncing around. He was a Springer! Smooch is so cute. Ann from Maine.

  13. Did you really expect a quiet ride??
Poor Smooch, it was a long day.
Glad it was uneventful for the most part!

  15. I was once on a flight from Austin (through Dallas) and on to Oregon with someone who had a crying kitty in a crate under their seat the entire way. I felt SO bad for the cat.
Did Smooch get the ice cream from McD's?

The video is great! ha ha!
Was Smooch whining because Johnny was crying? Or does Smooch always whine in the car?

    1. Smooch was whining at the cows. She doesn't always whine in the truck - just when she sees something that she can't have.
