All the boys in action

Lucy and I went on a search and rescue mission Saturday morning, looking for George's latest missing fly mask.
Our plan was to zig-zag across every acre of the ranch, looking in, under and around every tree.
It had to be out there somewhere.

We were about a half hour into our mission when George and Alan spotted us and decided to help.
Hank had his nose to the ground and didn't realize his little herd had deserted him.
And that's where today's video begins.

Someone asked recently if I ride Hank. Not anymore – I retired him about four years ago because of his arthritis. You can
see in the video that his right front leg barely bends at the knee. Clearly it doesn't slow him down or interfere with his pirouettes!
And in case you were wondering, that is Hank's sweet voice you hear in the first few seconds of the video.

  1. I vote for buckles. Good ol' leather straps and metal keepers. You can get replacements at saddle stores. I took the buckle and the elastic for english riding girths and made a "girth" for my saddle that sits on my daughter's Butterscotch Fur Real pony. It fits snugly and is more horse/donkey resistant than the average elastic. Th leather billet straps would have to be sewn by a saddle repair person.

Unless you like the adventure of looking for the fly masks! :)

  2. Love the Music :) :) (small confession: I hum it in the shower)

Great action shots of the boys. Was George guilty of removing Allan's flymask in previous seasons? He could have been the instigator and Allan is just giving him a bit of payback.

I gather that neither of them attempt to remove Hank's or Lucy's masks.

  3. Great video, Carson. It reminded me of "Hi Ho Silver away" Now we put the masks on the animals. I guess you could pass for a lone ranger out where you are.

    Best always,

  6. Don't know how you stay on Lucie with all the antics from the rest of the herd. I'd be laughing so hard I'd fall off. And such a steady camera hand!

Love the video, Hank is such a star when he wants to be!
Is it possible to put a small piece of reflective tape or bright orange tape on the fly masks? Not sure if that would stand out enough ... just an idea?

I could watch that video all day with Handsome Hank. He was feeling his oats. Maybe fly masks need to be in bright colors to be easier to spot. Love the music.

  13. Love watching frisky equines. It's almost like Hank knew you were making a movie, with his grand entrance and pirouette. I can see why it's hard to find the masks. As always, the music is perfect.
