The midnight ride of Danni and George

You know who your true friends are when:

1) they get a kick out of helping you kick down cholla cactus...

2) they watch your herd as closely as you do to make sure nobody's eating locoweed...

3) then they help extricate the leg you've caught on the cactus you were kicking
(which didn't fall over as easily as you thought it would,
causing your jeans to get impaled, which then made you fall flat on your butt)

4) but not before taking embarassing documentary evidence that you can post on your blog.

Where would I be without my friend?

Did I mention she's not afraid of hanging out in the pasture with us in the dark?

I was busy trying to capture Alan's sweet face in the picture above
when I sort of heard Danni ask me something. "Do you think...stand still...?"

Me: What did you say, Danni?

Then I looked over...

Me: Oh. Were you asking if George would stand still
while you used the bumper to climb on his back?

Me: I guess he will!

And with that, they rode off into the sunset.

Kidding. Sort of.

Me: Umm...excuse me, Danni, but you don't have any reins to control him
and remember all that cactus?

Danni: Reins? We don't need no stinkin' reins!

They turned back around and decided to wait until the sun comes up to go for their second ride.

  1. Okay girls how many glasses of wine before you all started riding wild donks? Love this post and what a beautiful evening - I see a riding donkey in the making - time to hit the trails with Lucy perhaps?

  2. I just love your friends. Ms. Sparkle is just full of spit and vinegar and adds spark to your fun (which is plentiful to begin with). How ever it is, that fate or donkeys or the blogsphere brought you together......what a beautiful thing.
Let's see, hmmmmm Ms. Sparkle, Ms. Twinkle and Ms. Shine....yep and Senor Don, now that's a bundle of fun. (like the kettle of swallows.
Oh my gosh, who knew George would allow such a thing, I mean I know you slipped off the fence on his back that once but who knew Ms. Sparkle would try such a temporarily insane but way cool thing. Smooches, Oma Linda

  4. Terrific pictures, love the one of the donkey looking to see if there had been any hay hauling going on in the ranger, maybe find a missed tidbit in there. Great sunsets too.

  6. You just had to know the temptation would be too hard to resist after your little "ride" a while ago. Looks like you are going to end up with two riding donkeys whether you wanted one or not:) What a great way to spend your vacation, for both of you.

  8. It amazes me that nothing concerns your donkeys. Glad y'all had fun and she was there to rescue (and document) your run in with the cactus.

  9. Now that's what I call a real friend. I wouldn't mind kicking the cactus out but going out at midnight when all kinds of critters are crawling around is out. You'd definitely be on your own that time of night. Glad you're having some fun on your vacation...except for the cactus grabbing you that is.

  20. A special post. You might think about taking a machete to the cholla, instead of your foot. That's what we did. Then we piled it up and set it afire. Gotta get rid of as many needles as possible, or they will haunt you for years.

But on the other hand, it would be as funny.

Please remind us again, who is Danni to you?
