Some like it hot...we're not in that group

It was 101 in the shade yesterday and too hot to be outside except to feed, water, and refresh Wynonna's mud puddle. Finally, around 8 pm as the sun was setting and it was still 99 degrees, I ventured out to take a few pictures.

Deets is just as dismayed about this heat wave as the rest of us.

  1. Gee gads, what a temperature and to still be so hot at 8 p.m.! Awesome picture of Deets, with the sun hitting him and the look on his face is priceless. Guess being a black cat at 101 or 99 isn't fun at all!!!

  2. Poor Dete's. He's an outdoor kitty, isn't he.

    Keep cool!

  3. Looks more pist than dismayed. Ah, Deets, I feel your pain.

  4. At least you have a dry 101, without humidity. Be thankful for that.

Welcome to summer and ice cream treats! (And homemade Frosty Paws.)

  5. You may be like us. We didn't have any Spring temps. Just straight into Summer. It seems like you were just showing snow pictures.

  6. It was pretty warm yesterday, wasn't it? What a beautiful picture of Deets - love it. Stay cool today!

  7. Beautiful lighting on Deets. It was 97 here in Central CA yesterday. My chickens were panting and my donkeys waited until sundown to play with their toys. I would love to see pictures of Wynonna in her mud puddle. She has the most endearing expressions.

  8. Ugh.....that is very hot indeed. But is it humid? Humidity with heat kills me!
Love your header picture. Makes me smile!

  11. I noticed the optimistic "but it's a dry heat" was not anywhere in your narration! I hate being hot - dry or not - and so I feel your pain. Can't believe it is that hot already. We, in the deep south, haven't even felt those temps yet. But the humidity is about to make up for it.

looks like we might be seeing some Smooch and Frosty Paw pics soon!

  12. How soon we forget the long cold winter with the unusual amounts of snow that we had in New Mexico this year. I thought winter was never going to end so I will take the heat. Of course I absolutely HATE to be cold so......

  13. dry heat or humid heat...it's all heat. We try to go out first thing in the morning or about dusk...that's about all we can stand in Mississippi unless we're in the pool. :P

  14. Boy, Deets looks *grouchy*!!!
Sorry for the discomfort all of you are feeling. Too hot...too cold...too wet...too dry... How about some nice, middle-of-the-road "just right"?!?!

  15. We were just visiting Stumpy's Daily dose o Dirtville & thought we'd drop by for a visit. Wonderful picture of Deets. Like the name too. We had a good day yesterday - warm but not anythink like where you are. Today it's raining. Sun would be nice. Stop by & visit anytime. We enjoy meeting new people.

  16. A friend of mine moved to Aiken SC and tried to talk me into moving down there. So I check the weather there once in awhile. So it is 89 there with a heat index of 97. Here in the desert of southern NM it is 91 with a heat index of 86. I love the heat, but hate humidity. This desert rat is staying put!

  17. Boy, you've sure had the extremes this year! Up here in my part of Oregon, it's been pretty blah with gray days, only a few with sun and way lots of rain. The one good thing I can say for it is that it's good grass growing weather except for the nights below 40

  18. "The essence of a cat" ... perhaps my favorite Deets picture so far. The eyes, the tail, the paws, the light - magnificent. But sorry about the heat, though, guess the barn is the right place for a farm cat during the hottest hours.

  19. Deets needs a iced coffee. :)

(on the saddle bag - I know, isn't that chapstick carrier the best? LOL)

  21. I love that photo! Says it all!
    ...
but I'd take 100+ temps over our Fall like weather! I miss the heat that AZ had to offer when we lived there, altho Cowboy and the critters weren't so fond of it.

  22. Gorgeous photo! Dang that's hot, thankfully it only gets that hot a handful of days a year here, I don't think I could handle it!

  23. Wow. That came out of nowhere, didn't it? Wasn't it really cool just a short while ago...? Youwsa...

  24. OMG...please tell me that heat isn't normal! I know, it's a dry heat, like a blast furnace. I will remember that saying forever!
