Cowgirls' Weekend

What's this? Extra horses in the corral? Extra people at the 7MSN? That can mean only one thing...the second annual Fall Cowgirls' Weekend. Janice, Collette, and Laila left their boyfriends/husband at home and made the trek to the 7MSN with their horses for a little R & R (ridin' and ridin').

After one small mishap involving Laila's horse's head, Laila's head, the pipe corral, and a bloody-but-not-broken nose, we were on our way across the range on a picture-perfect fall afternoon. Guess which horse is the former eventer that travels in a freakishly tall horse trailer. That would be Homer, the tall drink of water in the middle, under Laila. By this point, her blue jacket complemented her nose quite nicely. Janice is on the right, riding her rescued PMU mare, Hope. And that's Collette on the left, riding Mimi, an old flame of Hank's.

We headed out across some state-owned land, meandered through a gate onto another ranch, and were having a grand old time. About 4 miles out, we decided to make the turn toward home, and that's when Lyle came up lame in his left front leg. I got off and walked him home. Whoever said "these boots are made for walkin' " lied. But it was such a beautiful afternoon, the miles went by pretty quickly. I got him home, gave him some bute, and tried not to stress too much, knowing the farrier would be coming today and we would be able to correct whatever was causing his pain.

We poured a few adult beverages and proceeded to eat dinner. Rancher-woman is really having fun with that remote control for her camera.

We retired to the living room and poured a few more adult beverages. Laila was getting a little self-conscious about her colorful swollen nose and kept hiding behind the lamp.

At this point, I was informed that whatever is talked about at the 7MSN stays at the 7MSN, so I'm not allowed to write captions for these pictures.

Now it was time for dessert and a movie. Stop reading this right now and go make this Pioneer Woman recipe for Easy, Delicious (and yes, Elegant!) Pots de Creme. It is to die for. And come back tomorrow for the dish on the rest of the weekend.

  10. What fun! Do you have many neighbors (within riding distance) that you are able to ride with regularly, or are you pretty much on your own out there?

Hopefully that nose is doing better, and I am off to check out that recipe!

  12. Girlfriends, horses and adult beverages. What a fun weekend! Beautiful horses, and I see you have cats too. I just posted a blog about cats, although my blog is usually related to cowgirls and writing, since my first novel, Cowgirl Dreams, is coming out soon! The book is based on my grandmother who rode steers in Montana rodeso during the 1920s. I no longer live on a ranch, but was raised riding and rounding up the cattle.

  13. Hey all....thanks for your concerns regarding my nose, it's much better today thank you, still large but then it always has been...hence getting in the way of Homer's head! It was an awesome weekend. Although Linda's pictures are truly sensational they can't depict the sense of warmth and camaraderie a weekend with good friends brings....

  15. Smart females are such good company...and I include Smooch, who I see is smack in the middle of the gathering, in that group.

That said, I will require that you send me one of your LR chairs immediately. I love your house; I'll settle for one chair.
