Heatwave blamed for nursery collapse – no casualties reported

Yesterday morning, I was interrupted by quite a ruckus
on the front porch.

Imagine my surprise to find a pair of young swallows trying on my shoes.

Apparently, the relentless heatwave caused their nest to detach
from the wooden beam.

Swallow #1: Climate change is for real, girlfriend.

They looked big enough to take care of themselves,
but I was concerned about their parents finding them before the cat did.

Swallow #2: It's about time you got here. We're starving.

Swallow #2: That's all?!

Swallow #1: Feed me now or I'll poop in your shoe again.

  1. They are so cute! My morning doves claimed squatters rights to an old robins nest on my gutter from last year. Who knew they reused nests?! Dad did build an addition and made it taller. Mom had two not one but two litters? (Slut)
I hope they can stay away from Johnny. :-/

    1. They hung out in the shoes for a little while, then flew away. Luckily, the feral beast hides in the shade of the garden most of the day and was none the wiser.

  3. not sure my comment was sent, so try again: I think you could find some pottery or iron cones (the ones that are appliques for putting a light bulb in or wall pot-covers) and fix a few on the wall porch for them; they are not expensive

  4. ONE OF THOSE CROCKS WOULD MAKE A GREAT TEMP NEST. YOU COULD NAIL IT WHERE THE OLD NEST WAS.

  5. I like that one of them pooped in your shoe. Nothing says home sweet home like poop in living room. At least to a bird.

  6. Cute. Hope they can fly before JC gets to them. Routinely the swallows build their nests in our hay barn and the metal won't hold them.

  7. They are so cute! I have a Starling family that comes every year to build there nest outside my "She-Shed" and this year was a success in early Spring. Then those dumb birds decided to lay more eggs in May and we are under extreme heat warnings (110 degrees) and those baby birds all jumped out of the nest and couldn't fly and they all died one by one. Made me so mad and upset. I blame the idiot parents.

  12. Maybe another DIY project .... add a little ledge to the ? soffit ? so the nest has something to rest on?

at least they didn't panic when they saw you or heard the camera click?
