  1. I think you need to give in and get them a rooster so they can raise some babies. You could become a Chicken Ranch.

Hmmmm, "Chicken Ranch", that does have a familiar ring to it, lol. You are already out in the middle of nowhere, perfect!

    5. I noticed Ms Carson didn't reply to that one. My grandparents had a bunch of hens and roosters while I was growing up. The cocks crowed all day long (there were lots of them). I noticed after a few days of visiting my grandparents I learned to tune the sound out. Roosters can be mean. BUT think of how much fun a bunch of biddies could be.

  2. Yep, that grass looks like an eggsellent location to lay!

  3. I'm sure you've answered this question before, but what do you do with all those eggs? Good thing the cholesterol scare has been disproven!

    1. I do eat two a day for breakfast, and those I don't eat, I give away. Sure wish you all lived closer so I could give them to you.

    2. did you try to freeze them? apparently it can be done by separating the white and the yellow in different containers

  4. Those girls sure are sneaky. They must have great time planning on where to hide those eggs from you. And you're right, they ARE pretty.

    1. They have an "in" with the Easter Bunny who gives them tips :-)

  5. So, they ALL layed them there. They wanted them closer to the house so you wouldn't have to walk as far.

  8. I don't know much about laying chickens, but do you have to sterilize them in anyway before you eat them? Can they carry e-coli or salmonella?

    1. No sterilization required. They usually come out perfectly clean, but if they happen to have dirt or whatever on them, I'll wipe them clean before I use them.

    Very pretty color shells!!
Are you going to make something with the greenish/blue ones?!
    Maybe some pretty Christmas ornaments?!

Do you have to kick up the "nest" so they don't come back to it?
I just figure if they found a good spot and you just take the eggs, they will come back unless you make it difficult for them?

    1. I thought they might use the temporary nest again, too, but I found all of today's eggs in the appropriate nesting boxes. Not sure what made them go rogue for a day.

Ha ha! I guess they are rogue like you?? =D

Just wondering, if Smooch finds an egg, does she eat it? In that, does she like raw eggs?

    3. Smooch occasionally gets a raw egg on top of her breakfast as an extra special treat - she loves them.

  10. Mine got locked out of the coop during the day to allow her new friends some time to imprint on their new home. When the urge to lay comes, you just have to lay. The spot she chose was totally bizarre. Out in the open, next to the duck house. She could have been picked off by all of my local predators. Luckily for us all, she wasn't. Breakfast was delicious!
