One step forward

Your good vibrations are working. We are one chapter closer to the end of this story.
The seller is talking to the realtor again, and she agreed to a new closing date...next Monday.
Note to home purchasers: don't ever try to conduct business Thanksgiving week.
But the moving truck has to be returned today, so yesterday,
we unloaded the contents into my garage.

And my truck still fits! Whoo-hoo!

The Ranger and a few pieces of furniture were banished to the back porch.
Smooch doesn't know what to make of the arrangements, but she seems quite willing
to put up with any amount of disruption in exchange for two extra people to love her.

Thank you all for your positivity and support.
I'm sorry for dragging you into this drama, but the alternative was to not blog
while it was going on, and I didn't think that would go over too well.
I'll be back with updates as they occur – the good, the bad and the ugly.
Let's just hope they're all good.

  2. Real estate deals are some of the stressful events ever. I hope it sorts itself out soon. And you know, this is just how towns get started. A few years from now you may be living smack dab in the middle of Carsonville instead of 7 miles south of nowhere.

  3. woo hooo! fingers crossed it all keeps going in the right direction, and ethel and fred are NM home owners soon. In the meantime, I bet all the critters at 7MSN are enjoying the extra love. (What does Johnny think?)

  4. We once had to wait for a hurricane to decide where to land in the Panhandle of Florida, all the closing papers had to be reworked, and we finally closed just after Thanksgiving. We no longer have that particular house, but since then the real estate fairy has been kind to us. Sending many positive vibes for a happy ending. What a thrill for y'all just thinking of the adventures to come. Soon enough the fairy dust will settle and all will be well. Tinkerbell honey, get your ass out to New Mexico.

  5. Praying for the good! Thankful that you have wonderful friends to spend the week with you. When you all look back on this drama one day....it will make such a great story as the stress will be gone. For those of us just reading and not living it....it makes for a great story now! Lisa G in TN

  8. Of all the high-stress occasions (changing jobs, giving a speech, getting married, etc.) moving is right up near the top for stress. Moving with closing problems must be super stressful for Ethel and Fred. BUT, remember that Thanksgiving food is calming food. (Think of how often dads fall asleep after Thanksgiving dinner.) Sending wishes that all of you can have a relaxing Thanksgiving and everything will work out Monday.

  9. Good-ish news, glad to hear it. I get a kick out of the Ranger in the porch. I knew somebody who put his fancy sports car in his living room. You might consider it -- extra seating. Best wishes to Ethel & Fred & the real estate gods. WHY did all this go down, is my question! Fingers crossed!

  10. We've only owned two homes and have been in escrow purgatory twice. The worst. It takes the shine off what should be such a happy experience. Keeping good thoughts along with everyone for all to work out well. Happy Thanksgiving.

  11. I have heard that grooming donkey's and one horse is considered great therapy for stress and lot less expensive, and this earns the groomer good karma with the animal being groomed ;)

  12. It looks like you can still have a lot of fun while this gets sorted out. I hope that once the dust settles they get some donkeys or a couple horses, and you can all ride back and forth.

  13. Tell the seller he or she does not really want to face the wrath of the hundreds of 7msn friends following his/her moves very closely right now. We can whip up bad karma faster than margaritas. Behold the power of hundreds!

    1. Exactly. Hundreds, plus my five big brothers and seven even bigger cousins.

  14. My Shelley is a closer at a mortgage company and non closings are a day to day trial for her. When she read of Ethel and Fred's plight, she gave a little extra sprinkle of glitter on our wishes for a super outcome and so do the rest of the Cuckoos here at the Casa. Hey are you three intrepid adventurers going into Belen for the parade this Saturday? Nothing like a small town Christmas parade to set the mood for the holidays. We'll be there. Hope we see you. xoxo Oma Linda

  15. I still can't believe you will have friends as your neighbors! That is a gift that keeps on giving! Have a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving and I am sure everything else will sort itself out in no time.

  17. I am hoping that works out really well for all of you!
In the meantime, is there any reason you can't knit your girls some of these? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNv_X7wCge0

  18. You're right in thinking there would be backlash if you stop posting.
I had guessed that you might adopt a baby.... but 2 friends moving SO close to you (close enough to ride with!) is very exciting and likely less poop involved.
Have you been given any idea why the Seller has been waffling? It sounds as though she had a meltdown at the last minute.
Glad things are back on track.

  19. I have a more important question...does Ethel's new house have a BARN? Donkey Playdates RESUME!!!

  20. Glad to hear that the seller is talking again! Something will work itself out -- this will be so fun to have Fred and Ethel nearby, ready for adventure and silliness. Happy Thanksgiving!

They are so lucky to have you close by, and willing to let them stay as long as they need to!
I was thinking about the truck having to be returned, so I'm glad all their belongings fit into your garage/patio! Whew...

I hope all goes smoothly and they get moved in soon. =D

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

  22. well, while we are all waiting, let us not sepak about the house anymore to keep our positive vibes free to do their work. Instead, let's enjoy time with all your sweeties and Thanksgiving. That will make for nice and exciting pictures. please we would like to see all the interaction with G, A, H, L, S, J, the girls and the newcomers. and also your great recipes for thanksgiving, kitchen teaming; etc.

  23. Howdy folks! Just wanted to take a moment to chime in here. We would like to thank everyone for they're overwhelming support and prayers for a happy resolution to our situation. And first and foremost thank you to our most gracious hostess and the herd, for without them we would have headed back to the other side of the world during one of these downward hills of this roller coaster we've been riding. Hopefully come Monday this will have the ending we've wished for. But rest assured Ethel and I will see this thing through, because nobody can break our spirit at this point, we've been through too much and above all we will always have each other. Once again thank you all. I apologize for the silence on my part during all this....... Peace.....

    1. How sweet of you to get in on the responses too Fred! We're all so excited that you and Ethel are moving in so close! Do you realize what a world celebrity you are now going to be? We'll all be watching how your adventures continue. Are you a 'Critter Family'?

      Delete
    2. Not looking for any celebrity status, just want to continue on with our lives. But thank you. Yes we are a critter family. With at least two we will be adding, of the canine variety.

  24. Since Fred and Ethel can no longer unload their moving truck at their new house, but instead will have to make several trips with your pickup to move their belongings from your house to their new house, I think the Seller should provide an additional truck and offer to help. Since she caused this debacle, I think this is the least she can do.

  25. My son is going through this right now...back and forth and back and forth over their house. We just PRAY that it sold, otherwise he has a 2 hour commute every day.

  27. We have done this two time with friends, one for six months and another for over a year. There stuff was in the garage and filled my living room with boxes, only enough room for a path so they could dig things out if they needed something. It worked but was nice when they said I bought a house, I said lets start moving I will help you move all the boxes and then rent a truck and move the big stuff.

Aaaw Smooch, if your little doggie head could conceive the actual number of people who love you and you have no idea...
