Saturday encore ~ If you can't make it good, make it pretty

The 35th annual pie festival in Pie Town, New Mexico, is today.
What better way to enjoy the festival experience than to bake a pie and enter it into the contest.
And what better way to bake a pie than with friends in the kitchen.

Chef Paul collaborated with Danni on a pie and showed us the fine art of pie crust making.

This is Danni working on the festive embellishments for the top of their pie...

...while Chef Paul taught me how to flip stuff in a skillet. It's all in the wrist.

While my bottom crust was chilling, I got to work on the festive embellishments for the top of my pie.
Carson's theory of pie baking: if you can't make it good, make it pretty.

I used to braid my mare's tail a lot and luckily my hands remembered what to do.

I'd never tried this before, so it was a bit stressful...

...and having the paparazzi in the kitchen added to the pressure.

My sous chef wasn't of much help.

In the end, I think we baked a couple of winners.

  1. Hope you were able to get to the PieTown celebration this year. We had plans but I can't ride in the car that long ride now so no pie tasting for us. I loved this series with you and your northwest buddies the last time around and it is great as a repeat. xoxo Oma Linda

  2. Missed you at Pie Town. Janet Anderson won grand champion for a strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, cranberry, pomegranate deep dish beauty. She said there weren't as many pies this year. It was fun and next year I'm going to enter. Hope to see you there then. Aunt Jean
