The chickens clean up the porch

JohnnyCashCat's generosity knows no bounds. Perhaps if he knew how squeamish I can be
regarding beheaded rodents, he'd stop leaving me gifts.

Rather than clean up the mess myself, I allowed the merry maids a rare moment on the porch
to handle the task for me.

You don't have to ask these girls twice to take care of a rodent problem.

The clean-up was interrupted when Mrs. Hughes caught sight of her reflection in the door.

Mrs. Hughes: Yes, I am the fairest of them all. You got a problem with that?

There was more discussion than action...

...until Peach moved in and took control, much to Lady Mary's dismay.

A free-for-all ensued as the girls divvied up the prize.

The ridiculousness of following around a flock of hens, taking pictures of them eating a dead rat
was not lost on me, so I left them alone to finish the task.

I'll keep sharing Johnny's gifts with them as long as they keep sharing theirs with me.

  6. Those are some beautiful girls you have there. I sure hope they never turn their beady eyes on JCC. By the way, how has everything turned out since the lightening strike? Did you find the smoking culprit?

    1. The saga of the lightning strike continues. I'll summarize it all in tomorrow's post.

  8. My goodness, it's empty nest syndrome! When our "B.K.'s (Barn Kitty)" four boys were grown and had learned their hunting lessons, BK would bring her catches and tuck them against the back door just like that. You're supposed to thank JCC and take it inside where you attack it. Although I think what you did will make him happy.

  9. Linda, You are loved and admired by your Johnny to receive such a very pricedgift of a whole mouse without the head! he showed his total respect and admiration to you. how lucky you are! please tell him how proud you are of him, how much you appreciated his gift, and what a great hunter he is. He deserves to hear it.

  10. I always feel so bad for the girl who finds the prize. She NEVER gets to keep it! You'd think that evolution would give the girls sense enough to keep quiet when they find a big snack. Nope, they announce it to the whole world and get it taken away.

  11. Love your pics! Chickens are so funny. My daughter has them at her place in the Hill country around San Antonio. Especially love that pic of Mrs. Hughes! At her place, one of her roosters is very possessive of one of the hen (Big Mama). When my grand daughter gets too close to Big Mama, the rooster attacks!

  13. I need chickens, I guess. Our cat took care of a mouse problem in the house but she left the body behind for us to dispose of. What a waste of food.

  14. I need some animal that will kill the mice and rats here. One morning, I looked out and a RAT was chewing on one of my sunflower plants! I put out a trap and killed it, but somehow the rat and trap got dragged out into the middle of the street and hubby saw them on his way to work! ACK! He stopped and put them both in the trash bin! Now my sunflowers are tall and beautiful (the ones that survived, at least!)
