Deja vu all over again

If it's fall, it must be time for the annual firewood-stacking post.

Ethel wasn't around this year to help me, darn it, but Smooch kept me company.

Smooch: We're going to be out here all day, aren't we?

Stacking firewood is painfully boring for the stacker and the watcher...

...and the blog reader who has to suffer through the annual post.

Smooch: At least they can close the page and go read something else. I'm stuck here.

    1. I've heard the same thing about Fritos; must be something about the oil. (Dried orange peels would stand a much better chance of sticking around for this purpose than Fritos.)

  2. Ah, yes. The annual events in our lives. The wood, the hay, the snow, the bugs.

  3. 2 questions, why does Smooch have to be on a leash while outside, will she run off?? And how long did it take your 2 donkey's you adopted from the BLM program to get used to living on your ranch and become friendly? thanks-marsha@tubbslanefarm.com

    1. Smooch is a hunter and will run after anything that moves, so I have to keep her on a leash at all times when she's not in her fenced-in yard.
George was friendly the minute I brought him home; Alan took a few months to trust me - four or five maybe?

  4. I'd rather stack wine bottles. Gosh, are you sore? It makes me sore just looking at it.

    2. Laura, I always take a few preventive ibuprofen on wood and/or hay stacking days so that I don't get sore.

  5. I won't desert (dessert) you in your day of blogpost need! I stared VERY hard at the firewood logs and willed them into place. Internet ESP is the best I can do from this side of the screen!! If Smooch could only understand that logs=warm=comfy house, then he might not show such boredom. Ha, who am I kidding! ACTION is his motto!

    1. Yes, I leave most of the wood outside but I load up the Ranger with about a week's worth and leave that in the garage so it's dry when I need to burn it.

I have the same question as above -- is Smoochie Poo on a lead? Or is that just her seatbelt?

    1. Smooch is wearing her seatbelt – she would jump out of the Ranger and chase rabbits if she weren't strapped in.
