No news is no news

There was a technology meltdown at home on Thursday, so I've got no new pictures to share of what's happening back at the ranch. I love this picture so much though that I thought it would be a good one to repost just so I could look at it all day.

The new antibiotics seem to be working, but the infection has yet to clear. My head understands the need to stay here until we've got the upper hand on it, but my heart just wants to go home. Every comment, every email, every phone call, every message that you've sent to me this week has felt like a much-needed hug. Know that I'd hug you all back if I could.

  1. Fighting the infection is top priority. You need to be in good shape for your Sweet Six Ears. Courage and hugs from France

  3. I am so sorry you are having to go through this, and that the recovery has taken this unexpected detour. I can't help thinking, however, that there is a book here--all about how new friends and old from near and from far came to your aid when you needed them. Seven miles south of nowhere may seem far away to you from that hospital bed right now, but it somehow became much closer to the rest of the world as the ranch sitters began to appear, one by one.

Sending hugs over the soggy New Mexico miles.

  4. Hang in there.Just let the body and antibiotics do their thing, it's all progress albeit slow. You'll soon be telling us that you're healed and home. It's so hard to be away from home though, especially when you're sick. Sending really strong Get Well wishes from Scotland.

  8. You were lucky to have made it out before the big flood. It really is 7 miles south of nowhere. Let's hope all goes well for CeeCee. Healing is a slow process in our fast paced computer world. Take special care of yourself, Carson. Soon you'll be home again with all your wonderful pals.

    Best always,

  9. Home is where the heart is and where you will mend faster, BUT you've got to get that infection cleared up, so hang in there.

  10. Happy you are staying the course....

  11. We are so glad you see the value of hospital care. Your animals and your friends need to know you will be cared for. Your infection will clear--secondary infections are not uncommon. When my father had his gut reorganized, there were many drains. With any bad thing being removed, some spillage might just happen. He fought his infection with positive energy and some big drugs. You will, too.

The smell of manure and ammonia will never smell as sweet as when you are back home for the last first time. Just like the taste of your first broth or your first meal. Last first are to be savored.

All your hard work will pay off soon. We are all here around you praying and cheering!

  12. I can't imagine how terrible it feels to be laying there thinking about everything at home but things happen for a reason and you need to rest and think positive thoughts about healing so you can get home soon. I'm so happy that you have all these people taking care of your animals. I hope you get to go home soon!!!!

You need to stay with the medical staff to get that infection resolved. Just be comforted that the ranchsitters are doing a great job. Hope the technology problems get resolved. Gentle hugs.

I love the black/white pictures that you post, especially this one.
I hope your recovery speeds up and you can be back at the ranch very soon.
The ranch sitter series has really been entertaining, you have amazing friends Linda .

  21. You have been on my mind. (((Hugs)))
I'm thinking it is probably a good thing that you are tethered to the IV pole, or you'd be out of there!
Rest - follow the Doc's orders. Get better!

  24. It is a great picture. Thinking all good thoughts to get the infection gone and you on the way to recovery.

Technology is great when it works.

    ReplyDelete
  25. As tough as it might be to stay here until that nasty infection decides to bown down to the meds and go away, at least you know that the critters are being taken care of and that you don't need to worry about them. Hang in there! Feel better soon!!

  26. Thinking positive thoughts your way and hope you get well soon!

  27. It is so hard to stay in bed and let your body heal even when you know it is the best thing. Glad to hear the antibiotic is working so they won't have to reopen the incision. Take care. You have the best friends in the world!

  28. My heart goes out to you. I am sending telepathic hugs from Pittsburgh. Stay put, get well and rest up and you will be home in no time. xoxo

  29. DITTO on what everyone before me has said! You just have to rest and let the antibiotics do their thing, otherwise their could be a relapse!
Just think what a wonderful homecoming you and your critters will have. I'm sure they miss you but I bet you miss them more! You've taken care of their every need even from a hospital bed! What a wonderful critter mom you are! So thankful for people like you in this world!
    Keep your chin up Carson!

  30. That is a really good sign you are healing--when you get hospital cabin fever. It must be incredibly boring compared with life at the ranch. We all want a video of when you are greeted by the herd when you return home. Probably lots of braying, barking, whinnying, grunting and meowing will be heard. Hope you get to go home in the next few days.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Rest up, feel better soon. We will still be here when you get back.

  32. I'll add some ((((hugs)))) from Thailand. It has all been said above. Take care..... but I am looking forward to the post that says........ I'm HOME!!!!

  33. Just don't push it to go home before it's right to do so according to the doctor. There are a lot of vicious infections out there and you want this one gone before you get gone. The important thing is the long term. Sending good thoughts your way.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have been silently following your whole illness, but I know how a prolonged hospital stay can be tough, especially once you start feeling better. Praying that you heal quickly and are able to go home soon with no further complications! The medical background in me says, "Stay until the infection is under control." But I am sure you are missing your home and animals. Hang in there.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Technology issues slowing down communications from home seems unduly harsh on top of everything else. We're here with you, your animals and ranchsitting crew.
Best from me and my two donkeys in California,

  36. OK I have been lurking way too long reading your blog without a comment, years at least! Your blog has enriched my life, it is the only one I read daily, it gives me such a boost. Stay strong and you will get well, you have incredible friends who are helping you, and your animals have such sweet spirits, everything will work out! Sending healing thoughts and hugs from Vancouver, WA!

  37. Sooo glad the cultures identified the bacterial culprit so the right abx got started! Deep tissue infections (not saying your abdomen is deep....just say'en) can take longer to respond than most of us have patience for :( So sorry that you are having to go through this, but so happy to see how wonderfully supportive your friends are. Your photo's and your animal's antics brighten my day, so for a purely selfish reason, I hope you are recovered and back at it soon :) Cyber hugs!

  38. I am glad you caught this infection in time and that you are doing better. Remember those old Montgomery Ward catalogues that featured 1Good, 2 Better, 3 Best and shoot for nothing but BEST!

We are all right along side of you, sending prayers and hugs from Minniesnowda.

  39. You will be out of there in no time. Patience is not your strong suit is it? Mine either if I am stuck in a hospital and not on an island. Big hugs to you from California...we need some rain, can you send some? I would love to see thunderheads and lightening bolts!

  40. Love this picture of Curly, Moe and Lucy all shagged up for cold weather and mohawks rising against the NM skyline.

I have a feeling that everything is in perfect timing. You are there over the weekend where anything that is needed is at hand and the last little bit clears up and you can go home free and clear.

With so much appreciation for your joy in life and the love you share with all of us,

    ~Suzanne

  42. Just remember, right now HEALING is your top job...if you don't, all the rest...well...we won't go there!

You rest and recover--and I have a feeling Johnny Cash Cat is gonna be an indoor boy when you get back; nothing heals folks quicker than a purring cat!

  43. This is a wonderful photo to gaze at while your body concentrates on getting better...I can feel the amazing positive vibes being sent from those beautiful eyes...and the soft antannae ears, all directed at you...oops, Lucy half-heard something behind her!

7MSN is the first blog I run to as soon as my computer fires up...you ARE getting better and the ranch is in quite capable hands. Dial down the 'worry' button. I know easy to say, hard to do, but take deep breaths...and remember we are out her in cyberspace, cheering you on!

  44. I have had cellulitis several times (a skin infection). Twice I ended up in the hospital. Each time I was on intravenous antibiotics for five days. I was never so thankful as when they removed that damn needle. I never determined the source of the infection - a small cut, a bug bite?
About the only good thing was the hospital had cable, which I did not have at home. Of course I had the visitors which kept interrupting my enjoyment of the TV!
Here's good thoughts sent your way!

I know it's hard to be in the hospital but getting this nasty infection conquered right now is top priority. Stay positive and than goodness for your wonderful friends who have been such a big help in caring for your critters. It will all be OK.

  53. I wish I could give you that big hug in person, and assure you that everything was going to work out very soon. In the meantime, I'm sure we'll find out that all of the animals have been loved on, given treats and toys and generally had a good time being anonymous for a few days.

  58. You are doing everything you can to get better, and your ranch sitters know to be encouraged by that. Heck, if I could get out there, I would lend a hand too!
I am very impressed these women are ranching it alone at a place not their own. You truly are gifted with some amazing friends, and I am grateful to meet them via the 7MSN blog.

  65. I hope you were able to do as you said: Look at this wonderful picture all day, immerse yourself in it, smell the scents of the animals, the junipers; listen to the sound of their breathing and munching; feel the love... I can attest to the healing powers of this medicine, works even long distance! Aaand, you could further enhance this effect by cracking yourself up re-reading your own dialogs/lines!! :-)
P.S. Being a patient and having to be patient - exact same word - coincidence? (ugh)

  66. Chin up, Carson! Let the antibiotics do their work and you'll be home shortly! :-) I know how hard it must be for you, but you need to get well so you can take care of all your critters! (((BIG HUG)))
