Amazing graze

When I walked outside yesterday morning, Lucy and the boys were not waiting for me in the barn
for the first time this year. I hate it when that happens. I can't start my day until I know
all are safe and accounted for, so I headed out to find them.

I suppose I can't blame them for not coming home.

Why walk all that way for some year-old hay when they can gorge on the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet?

Little does Lucy know that she's a few bites away from having to wear a grazing muzzle.

We've reached that summer sweet spot where I've gone from feeding
an entire bale of hay per day to one measly flake,
as in one handful each at breakast time just so they have a reason to come back to the barn in the morning.

Obviously that's not worth their time or effort.

George: Did you bring out our fly masks?
Me: No. I don't do room service.

Hank: Come on, let's head for home. I need some water anyway,
and that's the only way we'll get rid of her so we can get back to eating.

Hank: Please tell me they're following me. I'd be so embarrassed if they weren't.

  1. Did Hank teach them to walk single file like that? I always crack up when I see the narrow ruts they have worn into the dirt. It is like they think they can't walk side by side.

  2. I know it's not just me, so the cause must be certain special powers that come with this place: Every day when I leave this site, my heart feels about twice the size as before. The health benefits are substantial!

  4. I know how you felt when they weren't there because yesterday your blog did not show up until an hour or more past the time it usually does. I was worried and nearly called the law!

Happy now that everyone is where they are supposed to be.

    Cheers,
    Jo

  9. Your corner of the world is gorgeous with green right now and wow. No wonder the smart four legs are out grazing. But too much of a good thing is still too much. Don't want them to loose their svelt figures now do we.
Love the contrast of the green against the red.
This makes me think of the ranch when I was a kid and visited during the summer months. The pasture alive with all kinds of interesting plants and things that aren't there when it is dry.
    Just lovely. Oma Linda

  11. That green, dewy grass looks sweet. It would be hard to leave it. I agree with sundog. The day seems better after visiting the 7MSN.

  13. Again, love the green of the pasture...you must love not having to spend a ton of money on that hay...Seems the herd loves the green as well...And that plant that you had in last post, cholla-I think...Is that the stuff that is poisonous? My friends in AZ. told me about a plant that looks like that and was told to stay away from it because it was poisonous...Just wondering? If it is, would it hurt your animals?

  17. What a treat!

Is that an anchor on Lucy's bicep? Did she do a stint as a sailor...? My, the stories she could tell.
