The lucky ones ... and helping the not-so-lucky ones

George doesn't have a clue about how lucky he is.

In addition to having a big, handsome horse watching over him,

he's got food, water, shelter, the love of his family and a legion of friends...

...and a few minutes of fame on the internet.

If only all donkeys were so fortunate. Which brings me to the point of this post.

Amy, a long-time reader of this blog, is working very hard to raise funds for Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue, the largest donkey rescue in the country, through Groupon Grassroots. She organized a successful Groupon Grassroots campaign in the Portland, Oregon, market that raised $5,700 in 10 days. Now she's got a campaign in progress in the Houston market. Here, I'll let her tell you about it:

"If you're not familiar with Groupon Grassroots, it's an email campaign that is sent to Groupon subscribers. Instead of offering merchandise or a service, the $10 Groupon purchase goes directly to the featured non-profit organization. Groupon sends the complete amount of the donation, not taking a percentage/fee. The donor must be a Groupon subscriber (easy to register, just as easy to unsubscribe after a donation is made)."

"I was able to organize a campaign in the Houston market that begins on May 2 and lasts five business days. If we can triple our donations within the first three days, our campaign is extended another five days. Here's the link: http://www.groupon.com/deals/peaceful-valley-donkey-rescue-1

"Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue is an amazing facility and group. They accept donkeys from all over the country, nurse them back to health and try very hard to adopt them out to carefully vetted adoptors. Those that aren't adopted live out their lives with love, groceries and veterinary care."

I just clicked on the link and bought my Groupon for Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue
Such an easy way to make an unfortunate donkey a little less so.

  2. Thanks for the info, posted to facebook and sent some $. It's sad what happens to donkeys and horses. Recently found out about the nurse mares in the racing industy. Unbelievable. Anyway, thanks so much for sharing your part of the world. Great start for the day :)

  10. I confess I was a little afraid to read this post. I'm glad to see it's full of good news and not about people treating donkeys poorly.
