Men on stilts

The stucco crew arrived yesterday afternoon to do their thing.

I am so buying a pair of these the next time I'm at Home Depot. Imagine the possibilities!
No more stinkin' 5'4" view of the world. Cover those things up with a pair of extra-long boot-cut jeans and I can be tall!

Smooch: They still haven't lowered these windows, damnit.

The big decision now is whether or not to make the swallows' nest a part of the overall decorating scheme. Let's take a poll.

The men on stilts can't apply the color coat and finish the job until the temperature is "at least 40 degrees and rising."
Guess we won't be seeing them again anytime soon.

  1. Looks like a built in wall sconce to me =o)

  2. Wow! It looks like the house was designed that way!

  3. I didn't vote for the swallows nest - not sure how long it will stay up before it will age out and unceremoniously detach itself. Would it make a mouse house if you left it?

Have you figured out a use for the corbels (sp?). I liked the idea of a shelf. The long-shot photo looks like you have some space for a shelf .... room for a few cow skulls?

  4. Maybe it's just the angle of the picture, or maybe it's just me, but does your house sag toward the middle...only at ground level.

  5. What a great addition to your cute house! I can just imagine soaking up the sunshine in that lovely space!

  6. My swallows nest has been 'hanging in there' for about 6 years now. It's on the outer edge of my cincha shop porch and shows no signs of going anywhere.....

  7. Looks fantastic so far. Does it face west? Will you be seeing the sun set from your glider rocker?

  8. I had an office once that had many blemishes intentionally left in the walls - it was a historic building - they had a painter come and add touches that made them charming. There was a hole in one of my walls and she found a birds' nest and put it inside the hole and then put fake blue eggs in it. I loved it. You could paint some swallows along that panel up by the nest and/or put something really interesting up there. I love things like that!!

  10. Sometimes I find abandoned nests on my bike trips. I like to bring them home and place them on my patio table as a centerpiece or displayed in a pot of dried branches from the bush. I am always amazed by the construction and the little bits and pieces they find to build their house. They really know how to recycle. I say keep it!
    Best always,

  11. You go girl, on your stilts, in your boot cut jeans. I promise not to laugh when you're riding Lucy. :)
I say keep the nest. It adds a little history.
Would you consider painting that bedroom blue to bring the sky inside?
    Come on, 40 degrees!

  12. Every single day I would fall in love with that sunroom all over again!
I would definitely leave the nest (but would probably "de-mite" it).
Stilts in lieu of a short ladder - what a brilliant idea, I've never seen that before!

  13. Oh Wow! From the outside, the new addition looks great! I say leave the nest. It adds lots of character to the sun porch.

  14. Wow...walking on those things must be tricky, especially at first, and with all that debris on the floor. But then, I feel the same way about some of those high heels, most of the time, too.

  15. Oh do get the stilts!
What about building a window seat for Smooch?

  19. I love bird's nests, and if you are not a skilled painter of birds, look for a stencil! They are easy and fun. I think I have a swallow stencil and if you are interested, just let me know. I'll make you a copy!

Looking great and I'd like a pair of those long legs too. Endless ideas for use of those.

    Cheers,

    Jo

  20. That fellow on stilts reminds me of Obama! I love the swallows nest, reminds you of what was. If it should ever fall off, it would be a tiny repair job.

  25. Sigh. It looks absolutely beautiful, Carson! I'm so glad you posted that picture at the end - it gave me just the view I needed to fully understand the layout (finally). :-)
And, hey, I want some men with stilts walking around my house.
    Shirtless, please. :-)

  26. I can see you now Carson, walking with those stilts.

  27. Looks great so far!

I voted to remove, only because when the babies are learning to fly...it will be sort of difficult for them. Unless it remains empty, then by all means keep it up!
