Misery loves company

So how hot was it at your place yesterday? Just 100 here, with a bit of a breeze. As we like to say in the desert southwest, "it's a dry heat." To which I retort, "yeah, but so is a blast furnace." I cannot imagine how miserable 100+ must be with humidity, but I'll bet a bunch of you reading this from the midwest and east coast know firsthand. I hope you're all finding ways to keep yourselves and your animals cool.

I found myself hiding in the air conditioning yet again, spending way too much time at the computer. I happened upon a DIY/design/photoshop blog called The Accent Piece, which featured a post called How to Make a Silhouette in Photoshop.

Bet you can't guess how I spent the afternoon...

  1. 104 here yesterday, breaking all records. I've been trying to catch up on reading, but a person can only sit and read so long, IMO anyway. I'm not an inside person, so this feels like some kind of weird punishment.

  2. Carson, I went out yesterday morning, raked HALF the front yard, cleaned up the dog poop, raked the driveway and side lawn, fed the birds, watered, and tried to get the lawnmower started and was DONE by 9:00 a.m. It was 111 here yesterday. We're driving to the beach for a couple of days to get out of the heat!

  3. Hmmm, looks like a good way to spend the afternoon eh! I have been in 100 degree heat with humidity when I lived in southern ontario. Give me dry heat any day eh. The heat is bad enough, but with out power for the airconditioning?!?!?

  4. Our summer heat has not yet hit, but it will be here soon enough. Cute silhouettes. If only I could be so comfortable with PS. I use Lightroom for my editing and PS sits on my hard drive completely unused. I just don't have the patience for it.

There is no way I could live in the east or southeast power or no power. Heat, humidity and me just don't get along. It was tough sitting in the sun with 105 degrees at horse camp.

I love the silhouettes. What a fun way to sit indoors to beat the heat?

  6. High 90s to 102° here in Richmond VA. TERRIBLE storms the last two nights as well as during the day earlier in the week. Glad for the rain but too much damage and too much heat for old folks w/o A/C and animals w/o anyone to care for them. Humidity same as temps, high 90s and 100%. Harsh and scary.
Last night there was a young man with four dogs camped out on the sidewalk near the restaurant we went to. His bundles looked as if they consisted only of supplies for his healthy looking dogs. I gave him all my cash and he kept saying, "You're so awesome!", as we proceeded toward a meal, the cost of which would have kept them going for many days.
The water in my birdbath must have been really hot but a steady stream of birds, including a pair of bluebirds, came for a hot drink and a spa bath.

105 in the shade in eastern NC with all the humidity you can imagine. Found some inside jobs for me and the cats.

I Made several checks during the day on my 28 year old horse. I can’t help but wonder how much of this kind of weather he can stand. Looks like we have several more days to come.

  8. I don't think I'd be very happy with those temperatures, but it should would be nice to get rid of the rain for a while. I'm getting waterlogged and I think my toes are growing webs.

  11. 107 yesterday. They've banned fireworks here cause we need rain so badly. The grass is crispy. Haven't seen a bird in days. Come to think of it...I haven't seen the mailman either. I'm inside in the a/c. You made better use of your indoor time than I did!

  12. 115 degrees here in AZ. I work inside during the day and at night we hit the pool. This is my first summer here and it isn't as bad as I imagined it. Coming from Cleveland with all that humidity makes this easier to take,

  13. It was only 101 here in Burque but I took advantage of the temperature and baked cookies on the dashboard of my car. Grands had a day of science experiments.
Really like the silhouettes of the equines....are you working on dogs, cats, pig and chickens? Stay inside and play. Tell me you are having a fan system set up in the barn for the animals. Ouch it's hot. xoxo Oma Linda

  14. I love the silhouettes-Sweet! Here in the Pacific NorthWET (we dont' tan we rust), we are done with JUNuary and do not want July turning into JUbruary. One plus of having mild temps is I work outside more than when the temp is a fierce 80! My sympathies to all of you suffering from the heat, fire and storms. Mick

  15. I am in the DC area! About 100 and super high humidity, and to add icing to the cake, a storm went through killing power to over 1/2 a million homes. Including my in-laws', who are now camped out at my house! What fun!

  16. Heat index is at 106. I've got a fan going for the chickens in their run, which seems to help. When the day starts off at 80 degrees, you know you're in trouble.
