Jack Frost nips at Alan

Most of the snow has melted, most of the mud is gone, and the road out to the highway is finally passable. On top of that, the 7-day forecast shows not a storm in sight. That's not to say it's warm and balmy, but we'll take our comfort where we can find it.

  1. Your pictures are awesome! Glad Mother Nature is co-operating more at your end ... over here she's still got quite an attitude, with snow flurries/cold temperatures/winds! UGH!

  6. Yeah! I'm glad to hear there's a warming trend over there. Enough is enough. Pretty dusting of frost on Alan though. I'm always amazed at how the cold doesn't seem to affect animals much. More proof that they're the superior race.

  10. Love the tip of his ear! Have you ever had trouble with frostbite? I've known a few horses who lost the tips of their ears due to frostbit. But, I'm pretty sure they didn't have dedicated care yours have. These fabulous photo opportunities are making me wish we had a little snow around here!

  15. Now you know what he'll look like when he passes middle age ;)

Also, hello! I've been making my way slowly through your archives since I reached a post of yours about old gloves via thepioneerwoman. I've loved every minute spent reading about your animals and your middle of nowhere and would like to thank you for writing this wonderful blog! Looking forward to becoming a regular reader.

  16. Beautiful collage! Your photos are lovely. I always liked seeing frost on my mare's fur. It just proved that underneath she was warm and dry.

We've still got 5-6" of crackly snow on the ground and puddle pockets of thick, slimy mud in between. The thaw is just beginning up here.

Oh. And it snowed up here last night. Only a dusting....but still. Just a reminder winter's not over, I suppose. bleh.
