Who's afraid of the big bad bull?

Smooch and I were heading home with a load of firewood on Saturday when we met up with Big O and his herd. I hadn't seen Big O in awhile, so we stopped to chat and grab a few pictures.

I stood there admiring Big O's magnificence, trying to recall what my neighbor had told me about Big O's retirement as herd sire. Did she really tell me he'd been castrated and another bull had taken his place? As I was trying to piece together that conversation, I saw something move out of the corner of my eye.

Well, hello there, big black cow. I don't remember
seeing you before. Are you new in town?

My, you are awfully large - I can see that from here.
No need to come any closer...Mr. Bull.

Seriously, Mr. Bull, please don't come any closer.

We come in peace...we're vegetarians!
Not really, but I was running out of things to say.

Smooch! Open my door! This guy means business!

Mom, I've got my hands full over here. They've got us surrounded!

I realize we haven't been properly introduced, Mr. Bull,
but was it really necessary to chase me around the truck?
I was just being neighborly.

Apology accepted. Ta ta for now.

  1. Seriously Carson, some great pictures, but putting your life on the line with this "Mr. Attitude" chasing you around the truck!?!?! I broke out in a cold sweat just looking at each picture as he insisted on following you, and ooooh my goodness, poor Smooch and the sight to behold out her window! Whew!

  2. Nice neighbours! I donot think I have had enough coffee yet, but as I was reading I had a thought that those horns of Mr. O's would look really nice hanging over the stove or fireplace at PW's lodge :-)

  3. Is that a load of wood you are hauling? No wonder BigO, Big Black Bull and company wanted to check you out? They had never seen that before....

  4. Goodness, cattle always look so docile, but obviously they aren't. Looks like the neighbor has gotten into Black Angus. Glad you and Smooch (and the truck) got out w/o injury.

  7. ROFL "We're vegetarians" LOL!!!

Smooch seemed to have her side of the truck under control...

I had a close encounter of the bull kind myself the other day (I had actually been lamenting that nothing all that exciting happens over here compared to your blog! LOL careful what you wish for).

Frankly I've always been a little nervous that cows hold a grudge... You know, since I'm not a vegetarian. :D

  14. That's a whole lot of attention from a very large boy- and nice load of wood you have on your truck. We went and got a couple of cords the other day- now to cut, split and stack!

  15. My dad had a similar incident with a bull Buffalo while on a trip to Yellowstone Nat'l Park. He decided to get "up close & personal" with a baby buffalo; the baby's daddy didn't think that my daddy should be that close! It took two snowmobile riders to "rescue" my dad.......AND a park ranger to WARN my dad about buffalo and when they are about to CHARGE????
My mom doesn't let him out of her sight when they are in the woods.
