Who are you calling a loser?

You may recall a certain jolly elf calling a certain herdmate a loser in yesterday's post. Well, Skippa Little Loser Lyle took great exception to that statement. In fact, while Alan's elf training was in session, Lyle went so far as to try to break into the classroom to settle the score.

Now for any of you who have a similar gate, you know how counter-intuitive these latches are. With the dust and the rust on this particular mechanism, I struggle every time I try to open it.

Mr. Smartypants was determined to disrupt class, and with one deftly placed shove, he succeeded.

How do you like me now, you brown-nosed teacher's pet?

The teacher promptly put the school into lock-down and sent Mr. Smartypants to detention.

  2. Lyle will be getting a lesson in "paybacks" soon enough. I can't wait to hear what the elves in training have to say about that!

  4. Love it! No matter the latch, they always seem to find a cleaver way to get out...or in.

Your posts are the funniest in the blogosphere!!

  5. Nancy, Hank is the General generally, but since Lyle can't boss him around, he is known to give the burros a hard time or two.

  9. Too funny!

We have a similar style latch on our small round pen. Many of the horses are very capable of opening it themselves!

  10. Glad to see someone else struggles with those gate latches. I have had to use a bungee cord to fasten it as well as using the lock the latch comes with. We have one donkey and one horse who learned how to open the latch which in turn opened the whole gate. Looks like Lyle and my two all went to the same school!!!

  11. Lyle and latches. I remember when he locked you in the feed bin last year. Lucky for you he let you out. What a horse! He's a genuine locksmith.
Keep working on the Christmas pageant, Carson. I can't wait to see everybody's part.
    Best always, Sandra

  14. Ha ha ha! I have to go search for the post in which he locked you into the feed room! What a horse! Well, I say good for him. He's way too cool to be called a loser, even by that handsome burro.

  16. Ha ha! I have that exact same gate and the horses know how to open it even with the lock flipped. I had to add an old stud chain wrapped around the posts for good measure.
