Skywatch – thunderstorm at dawn

Tuesday , 5:45 a.m. The swallows were making a racket on the front porch. Rosebud was at the screen, making noises at the birds. Smooch was standing on my legs, making noises at Rosebud. It was pointless to stay in bed any longer. I opened my eyes and screamed pretty loud. A rare morning thunderstorm was heading our way, and I had never seen such beautiful light. I did not get dressed, I did not brush my teeth, I did not feed the animals. I ran out the door with my camera.

When the beautiful light faded and the rain started, I went back in the house and started the morning all over again. And I made sure to thank Rosebud and Smooch for waking me up and making these pictures possible.

To see who else might have woken up early to take pictures of the sky this week, check out the links on the Skywatch home page.

Sailors would be taking warning, er, if you weren't landlocked. Beautiful! Did you get any rain or just watch from a distance?

I don't think I've ever seen a thunderstorm in the morning. Outstanding. Gorgeous. Mother Nature is pretty awesome and a bit of a show off at times, isn't she? :o)

Truly awesome! Does this mean you will have flowers popping up from the big rain or does rain happen enough that it's not a special desert event?

Gorgeous. How about an extra treat for Rosebud and Smooch as thank you from us?

Oh my, that's almost more color than one knows what to do with!! Love the sweep of the distant rain, too.

This is why we love to live in New Mexico! All that sky, and those occasional visitors, the clouds, combine for beauty the likes of which I've never seen anywhere else.

Thanks so much for posting these wonderful shots.

Since none of us could see you in your nighty or smell your morning breath I would say it was all well worth it. The colors and the drama are fantastic! Well worth the early morning rush out the door! Views like this would inspire me for days!
