The truth about cats and dogs

Deets is the dog I’ve always wanted. There...I’ve said it. I know he’s a cat, but he comes runnin’ whenever he hears my voice.

He goes with me on long walks in the pasture...off leash.

He might run ahead or fall behind a little, but he never leaves my sight, nor does he eat jackrabbits or chase cows. And he doesn’t bark at the horses and burros, so they wouldn’t dream of kicking him. He loves to hang out with the herd, and he’s smart enough to sit under the trees so the ravens and owls can’t swoop down and snatch him.

Though Deets talks alot, his meows won’t scare off trespassers, so Smooch is no danger of losing her job. But Deets is one cool cat and in the running for top dog at the 7MSN.

  1. I think he's gorgeous! He looks like a black panther. A tall, dark, handsome stranger with a hint of mystery.

  3. There is just something about a lean cool black cat....by the way, how'd he get his name? Isn't Deets a character in a movie (can't recall which one right now....)

  5. I have a dog cat, too! Not so bold as yours, and an 'indoor only' kitty, but he loves to play fetch! Cats are good company.

  6. Deets and Dickens are very much alike. We call Dickens the Cowboy because of his love of the barn, the horses, the fields, and his ongoing patrol of all of the above.

It's very clear Deets has found his bliss there.

  7. Here's the link back to Deets' arrival and how he got his name:

Yes, he is named after Deets the cowboy in Lonesome Dove.

  8. We had a cat named Atticus (accompanied by brother Boo, of course) who was a dog. He came when called, drank out of the toilet, etc.

  10. I personally like cats better than most dogs, because they are not needy...they are more like horses :)

Deets looks like one cool feline too!
I just finished my tag responses, so you will have to head over and read about me. Then you will never want me back at your blog...heeheehee..lol!

  11. Cats are cool. I grew up with cats and we have had cats all our married life (41 years).

    Great post.

  12. I'm not going to tell Smooch, for fear they'll end up like these two:
    The Duel
(The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat
    by Eugene Field
The gingham dog and the calico cat
    Side by side on the table sat;
'Twas half-past twelve, and (what do you think!)
Nor one nor t'other had slept a wink!
The old Dutch clock and the Chinese plate
Appeared to know as sure as fate
There was going to be a terrible spat.
    (I wasn't there; I simply state
What was told to me by the Chinese plate!)

The gingham dog went " Bow-wow-wow!"
And the calico cat replied "Me-ow!"
The air was littered,an hour or so,
With bits of gingham and calico,
While the old Dutch clock in the chimney place
Up with it hands before its face,
For it always dreaded a family row!
(Now mind: I'm only telling you
What the old Dutch clock declares is true!)

The Chinese plate looked very blue,
And wailed,"Oh dear! What shall we do!"
But the gingham dog and the calico cat
Wallowed this way and tumbled that,
    Employing every tooth and claw
In the awfullest way you ever saw-
And oh! how the gingham and calico flew!
    (Don't fancy I exaggerate!
I got my news from the Chinese plate!)

Next morning where the two had sat
    They found no trace of dog or cat;
And some folks think unto this day
That burglars stole the pair away!
But the truth about the cat and pup
Is this: they ate each other up!
Now what do you really think of that!
(The old Dutch clock, it told me so,
And that is how I came to know.)

  13. I love cats. They are so much fun and can be so persnickety. We had a fat cat that lounged by our pool instead of catching mice. Big ole fatty!

  14. Don't tell Smooch that her position may be downgraded by Deets! :O
    Deets is beautiful!
We had a black cat many years ago, too. He didn't have such a great name "Squeaky" but it did fit. He never meowed, only squeaked. Weird.
