A conversation with my horse

Sure is a nice morning for a ride, isn’t it, Lyle?

Yep.

Not too hot, not too windy, just right.

Yep.

Sure glad that party yesterday wasn’t at our place. We’d still be cleanin’ up the mess.

Yep.

Too bad it never rained, though. I thought for sure it would. Didn’t you think it was gonna rain?

Yep.

Must have rained somewhere close, though. The phone took a lightning hit and hasn’t worked since yesterday afternoon. You weren’t expecting any calls, were you?

Nope.

Hey, Lyle. You do see that big cholla there, don’t you?

Yep.

Good. Don’t be gettin’ western on me here.

Who, me?

Well, lookie there. Fresh cow poop.

Yep.

You see him?

Yep.

Good eyes, little buddy. We’ll just ride on up the hill past him and head on home, ok?

Yep.

Mind if we play “Extreme Cowgirl Challenge” and ride up the arroyo?

Yep.

Too bad. We’re goin’ anyway.
Just head on up through those trees there.

OK.

You sure are bein’ agreeable today.

Yep.

You’re even holdin’ up your end of the conversation.

Yep.

  3. My horse's conversation goes something like...

"Oh, there's some sage to eat."

"Look, there's some grass to eat."

"Hey, there's some leaves to eat."

And so on, and so on. He tends to have a one-track mind.

    Great post.

  4. Good 'ol Lyle! He's one swell guy.

My girl is more like Dan's, but with a twist.

"Oooh, just one snatch of that grass"

"Uh-oh, Think that rock thing will try to eat me?"

"Mmmmmm, that bush sure looks mighty green, let's edge over there a bit for a taste"

"Uh-oh, there's one of those wiggling political sign thingies. I just know that either the sign will get me or the politician!"

"Oh, whew. There's some fresh grass right over there to take my mind off of that sign. ahhhh!"

  5. That was clever.
I could actually hear Lyle's "voice" while I read it. It's kind of deep. ;)

  6. LOL, this cracked me up. I actually thought I was looking at once of my photos at first glance of the first photo. I love seeing photos from horseback, so I know I'm seeing the asme things! =)

  7. Cute, cute, cute!!! I always have conversations with my horses too...it's just something that you have to do :) I really like the fourth pic. You can see your shadow, as you are snapping away. Beautiful country...even if it is dry and parched!

  8. I wish we could morph over and ride in the arroyo with you and Lyle. Be glad you're there, not here. Is everyone here itchy? Yep. Swollen? Yep. Tired of it? Double yep.

  9. I imagine Lyle sounding like an old, Texan cowpoke, with a deep drawl. I'm impressed that you were able to take such nice pictures from horseback.

  10. Hey, you're on a ranch. You know that cows are the females. If it's a cow or heifer, it's a she and if it's a bull or steer, it's a he. Please don't fall in with the city slickers and media types that think "Cow" is what you call a beef or dairy animal, whether male or female.
Just my little rant for today. Keep the lovely pictures coming. Glad to hear that you appreciate the wonderful life you have. I envy you. All the best.
