Beyond my wildest dreams

If you've had a chance to watch the video of Alex and Smooch being together
for the first time, you know why I'm over the moon with happiness and relief.
Never in my wildest dreams did I expect them to get along as well as they are.

 Alex was cautious at first...

...but she sought out Smooch's friendship in no time.

Smooch has shown no aggressive behavior whatsoever,
no matter how hard Alex tries to get her attention.

If Smooch isn't in the mood to play, she just gives Alex "the look" and shuts her down.

Even Alex's interpretive dance routine was not enough to engage her.
Smooch had more important tasks at hand...

such as teaching Alex how to watch the road for trespassers.

Thank you all for sharing in our happiness. I've been collecting your questions
and will try to answer them in an upcoming post.

  1. Smooch is simply THE best! She knows she still has your love, even with the new puppy in the house, so she’s going to be accepting. I’m so happy for you!

  3. It seemed that Smooch was showing Alex the routine in the video. Looking for critters and such in and around the homestead. Then there was time for play! And those are great pics of Alex sneaking a peek. Smooch looks so regal in her role as top dog! Denise

  7. You're so fortunate to have this go so well! Those photos are absolutely WONDERFUL! Have to wonder, though, how do you acclimate a puppy to dangerous things like rattle snakes?

  10. Just the way it should be...the leaders of the pack teaching the youngsters. I think you will find that little Alex will not only bring huge amounts of love and joy into your world, it will also do the same for Smooch. Smooch will teach her all she needs to know:)

  12. How wonderful! Alex will get Smooch playing & add years to her life, and Smooch will teach Alex her doggie manners, things we humans can't impart. Smooch has already started, in fact, and Alex is smart enough to take hints from her elders. What joy!

  14. I love her ears and worried eyes peeking over the couch, and I don't know how Smooch can resist that dance. You must be laughing all day. Smooch is just the best girl ever.

  15. omigosh, LOVE the interpretive dance routine, that is hilarious! Smooch is very secure in your love, that's obvious. So glad it is going so well and that Alex knows not to challenge Smooch -- several very submissive poses in that video. /Gretchen
