A good time for extra time

I took this picture of Smooch on Sunday, when,
like almost every day since early October, the sun was shining,
the temperature was freakishly warm and winter was nowhere in sight.
What a good time to have all this extra time, some of which I've spent
binge-listening to the podcast "Dirty John." Described by the producers as
"a true story about seduction, deception, forgiveness, denial, and ultimately, survival,"
I highly recommend it, and I won't be searching any online dating sites in my spare time.

Have you seen the previews for the movie "12 Strong"? It comes out on Friday.
It's based on the book "Horse Soldiers," which tells the now unclassified story of
a team of CIA paramilitary officers and U.S. Special Forces sent to Afghanistan
to help take down the Taliban in the days following the September 11 attacks.
War stories and movies generally aren't my thing, but when I learned that horses
were involved, of course I had to get the audiobook, which meant Smooch and I

walked alot of extra miles over the weekend because I couldn't stop listening to it.
The book gets two thumbs up from me.
👍👍
As for the movie, I'll wait for it to be released on Netflix. I don't do theaters.
Most of it was filmed right here in Socorro County, New Mexico,
which apparently is a body double for Afghanistan.
If you see it before I do, let me know if you spot the 7MSN in the background.

  1. So strange, i just watched Dirty John on Dateline! It was very good, scary creepy, but good. You can watch it on line. I may have to wait for HBO or netflix on the movie too. Theaters aren't my favorite either. Looks good thou!

    1. I watched the Dateline episode after listening to the podcast - it was fun to finally see all the people I'd been listening to.

  2. Funny, I was just reading an interview with Jerry Bruckheimer(?) about this movie. He said there is a whole community of Afghani refugees living in New Mexico and they were in the movie. I don't do theatres either, so will be waiting for Netflix too. Smooch is looking good!

    1. Yes - S-town was totally addictive. I can't get enough of podcasts and audio books.

  4. I’m sure I’ve told you before that I’m an audiobook addict. I refuse to divulge the number of books in my audible library. IT IS A LOT! Thanks to you, I now have one more which I bought despite one review of the narrator (and I quote) “hope Jack Garrett gets trampled by the wildebeest with strep throat that he was trying to sound like.”

    1. Ha! I saw that review, too, and listened to the sample a few times to be sure I could handle it (I'm very picky about narrators). I thought Garrett did a great job.
p.s. my audiobook library is up to 207

  7. Smooch does not age, must be the climate. Still so cold here....
I did see Dirty John and was horrified but I do have a few stories on my own from online dating.
A guy who said his wife died and he was in the Navy. Came to find out she was a doctor and alive and he was a computer nerd. He even wore uniforms. Scary

  8. I read The Horse Soldiers when it came out and saw the movie last weekend. Good story and true. I wondered where it was filmed.
