Worlds apart

The view out my bedroom window Tuesday morning, as the sun was coming up
and I was preparing for a tortuous day in town.

Five hours later, the view of the cubicle I would sit in if I didn't work from home.
Can't. Even. Imagine.

  1. the torture for me would be leaving that glorious view and the DRIVE since I hate driving. I lived 13 years and a cubicle identical to this one. I don't miss it at all

    1. I had the same thing for 13-1/2 years in Oakland, CA at a law firm and the 33 mile commute [one way] usually took about 2 hours!! I moved to CO so I could see the mountains and not bumper-to-bumper taillights and a bunch of ugly high-rise buildings!! Marcia in CO

  2. I can imagine .

At least my cube has higher walls, but I still have neighbors (one nice guy who is a noisy eater will be moving to another cube in about 30 days. The cube on the other side has equipment for a remote user (out of state ... like across the country !) I'm hoping IF I get a new neighbor that he will be quiet (most of the techy types on that team are guys and this little cul-de-sac of cubes is pretty quiet).

If I worked at home, my view would be nothing compared to yours (small downstairs room, small window with a view of a big camellia). I do have a VERY short commute and can go home for lunch. That is the benefit of living in a small town.

  4. I think the mountain will be there for a long time, no matter how torturous it is to be away for a whole day.

  5. Cube farmer here :( You definitely have the better view from your home :)

Also like the pen and ink of your likeness on the cube wall!

  6. It took a lot of planning and commitment to get a "work view" like this. Simply gorgeous.

  8. The struggle is real. Not even a window near me. Of course my view at home in nothing like yours, but, i'd love to work from there. My dog would love it too.

  10. Sigh...that view...never gets old. Yucko on the cubicle except for your jacket and drawing of you!
I got anxious just seeing those walls, I remember all too well the rules and confinement.

  11. I'm cursed to live in cube hell as well. I used to fear for my life with my old cubemate. I was afraid that if he ran out of snacks, he'd eat me. My other cubemate is a shouter but luckily when she does show up, it's usually not for the entire day. The commute isn't grand either, 45 miles/minutes one day (always in the dark in the morning and sometimes in the dark on the way home in the winter). I do get one glorious day to work from home but my view is definitely not as spectacular. I get to watch the corn grow.

  12. I love your view! I have worked for the government for 30 years and in a cubicle for just as long. I know myself. I wouldn't be able to work from home. Although I live by myself with a blind wiener dog, I would find many distractions like Netflix and Hulu. I wouldn't get any work done. It would be pathetic. I envy you!

  13. Good Heavens!! No wonder you work from home. I retired in 2000 & had forgotten how little and uninspiring work spaces can be. Your sunrise picture is absolutely beautiful.
I love your blog: your sense of humor, photos, your ranch, your animals, & friends. Your writing makes it all real. Thank you, Sandy

  15. It's not just you who can't possibly imagine being there - I honestly can't envision this as your life either. I hope you left as quickly as possible. Blech.

  16. your view is beautiful! I've got to learn website design so I can start my little NC Dogs Rock business to help sheltered animals. :) Or I can find someone trustworthy to help me design it. I can work from help, help animals and stay with my pups. :)
    enjoy your weekend!
