Lucy and Ethel, the next episode

Ethel arrived yesterday for a brief visit. You all remember Ethel, right?
My partner in crime and BFF since ninth grade?
Though we grew up in a very small town and knew of each other's existence since kindergarten,
I don't think we even spoke until the first day of ninth grade, when we were the last to arrive
for biology class and there were two seats left in the room.

Carson Lucy: OMG, I have to be lab partners with her?
Ethel: OMG, I have to be lab partners with her?

The rest is history. We started passing notes and talking about boys,
then passing more notes and talking about more boys.
Somehow, we managed to pass biology and the next thing you know,
we were doing all kinds of crazy things together. If our parents only knew.

Ethel was known in high school for her fashion sense:
Seriously? The get-ups she used to wear? Ay-yi-yi-yi-yi.
But I'd walk down the hall with her anyway, much to my chagrin.

When we weren't riding our bicycles around town all hours of the night,
we were on the phone. I have no idea what we talked about
for hours and hours upon end – probably boys:

Our lives have taken very different paths,
but our friendship has endured for 46 years.

Ethel brought along her beau Joe Fred for this visit.
I've never met him until now.

I plan to mix up a batch of margaritas so we can get to know each other properly.

All of which is to say, blog posts will likely be sporadic over the next few days.
Blame it on the Vitameatavegamin,
which I'm certain would have tasted better with a shot of tequila.

  5. Ha. I had the same hair and glasses in 9th grade...1970. Also rode bikes all over town all hours of the night with BFF (this was when 10-speeds were first widely available). Today, my mom cringes to hear the stuff BFF and I did behind our parents' backs (and I've only told her the mildest stuff!)
Have a great reunion with your BFF.

  6. Take many pictures from a tripod set up near you, so YOU can be in the pictures, too. It feels good later to see that you were, indeed, there during the fun!

  7. Oh, THAT Lucy. For a minute I thought we were going to be treated to a trail ride of Ethel on Lucy. But if you happen to have too much tequila and Ethel rides you around the ranch, make sure to get photos of that too.

  11. Carson....here's something things ya'll might wanna fix while Fred & Ethel are there. Don't know WHERE you'd get lobster, but I think Hatch infused Margaritas might be fun! And champagne gravy....oh yeah. Cheers! http://houston.culturemap.com/news/travel/08-19-15-chicken-fried-lobster-poshes-up-state-fair-of-texas-food-contest-with-smoky-bacon-margarita-too/

  14. I'm so happy for you to have your best friend and her 'Fred' visiting. I know you guys are going to have a swell time. Can't wait to read/see all the fun. It must be really fun for your four-legged crew to have the adventure of having new two-legged units around for a visit. Get out the little umbrellas and may happy hour last for days!
