Out with the old, in with the new

How to prevent tailgaters:
drive down the highway with a 12-foot gate in a 6-1/2-foot truck bed.
Works like a charm.
Despite appearances, the new gate was securely fastened.
It took almost as long to untie all my knots as it did to install it.

The old gate had rotted out at the bottom and bitten the dust.

I never liked the old gate anyway.
The latch was hard to open and drove many a ranchsitter to the brink. Hi, Ethel!

The new latch lifts open with a simple, one-handed motion.
I wonder how long it will take the four-leggeds to figure it out?

Add "tow chain" to the list of ranching must-haves, right after duct tape and baling wire.

Alan: Think she'll ever shut up and open it?

George: Maybe we'll enter another dimension when we cross over.

 Alan: You go first.

Alan: Oh no! What if he doesn't come back?

  1. Sexy and strong! Where did it come from and what brand? By the way, tow chains should be in every household.

    1. It's a Priefert gate and it came from the gate store. See below.

  2. So, does one simply drive to the gate store and pick one of these up and it's a perfect fit? Or, is it made to your specs and you pick it up at the gate store? GATE STORE?!!!!

    1. Um, yes. My barn is built in a 12-foot grid .... sort of.... so a 12-foot gate plops right in place. The gate store is a place called Ranchero's in Belen, and it sells all sorts of ranch parts.

  5. They are so curious and check everything out, so funny. Many a time have I bruised my hand on the old one...
This couldn't have been easy but it seemed like you put it up in no time at all!

  6. I have one of those and it is my least favorite to wrestle into the truck! When mine broke (in the same place, BTW) I employed my super-useful state champion welder son to right things.

Gate store - sounds like Heaven. One can never have too many gates.

  7. It will take them exactly 32 seconds to figure out the slide latch. I use a simple carbabiner to keep mine latched. Easy on and easy off.
