As time goes by

Here is Smooch in one of her favorite spots three years ago.

Here is Smooch in the same spot yesterday.
Smooch: I liked it better when there were more pillows.

I've been asked if I would ever consider getting a companion dog for Smooch.
The thought does cross my mind now and then, and I shut it down every time.
There is general peace and harmony in the pack, and I would hate to upset the balance.

Everyone knows their place, even though they might not agree with it.

  1. Isn't that the window seat that caught fire from the sun?

    1. Why, yes, it is. Finally ordered a new cover for it just yesterday.

  2. Yow! Caught fire from the sun? How did I miss that post? Wise to leave the pack as is for the time being. Appreciate the peace & harmony while you have it -- things change in the blink of an eye. Most of us are too full of past & future to realize when we are in the Good Old Days while they're happening. Mazel tov!

    1. That post is a classic, and a valuable lesson learned:

  3. when there is a big age difference between a new incoming animal and the one existing, there isn't any problem. I mean if you would adopt a 2-month old baby dog for Smooch (or a baby donkey for Lucie?), there wouldn't be a disbalance.

    1. I brought 2-month-old Smooch into the family when my older lab was 12 ... it did not go well because their energy levels were so different, and I had to keep them separate until Dusty died. I'd hate for any of us to have to go through that again.

    2. I agree Linda - age difference certainly does not guarantee lack of problems in adding a dog to the household; neither does opposite sex. This is a misconception a lot of people have.

    3. Right. No need to go and break Smooch's heart.

  4. I wish I was growing older as graciously as Smooch!

  5. I would enjoy the balance you have. You will know when a "vacancy" appears!

  7. Turned my calendar this morning and guess who the CoverCat is for April? I'm gonna really enjoy looking at those green eyes and very long ears for an entire month. Thank you Carson (and JCC and George)!

  8. Smooch's pose in the first picture made me immediately think of a queen on her throne. Her 'hands', calmly placed in her lap, has her posing for an official portrait.

  9. Smooch knows that you love her, and that is enough.

  10. Today is my beloved Ginger's 14th birthday! It's not necessarily "the" day she was born, but my vet said that she was @ 8 months old when I found her, hawking for food in the Mc Donald's parking lot just before New Year's, on my way the to the NC Coast, so April 1st seemed a fitting day to celebrate her birth. She is my best girl-dog in the entire world, and I love her so much!

Ginger has a lot of Smooch's qualities, and if they got to know each other, I'm sure they'd be fast friends. Best girl-dog friends are hard to come by; cherish yours!

I love the first picture, where Smooch has her paws slightly crossed! =)

  12. Dogs may be social creatures, but they are perfectly capable of being happy being social with a human! And since you're around so much, Smooch is just fine without a canine sibling :) And she's a beautiful girl too.
