Sights and sounds from a frosty morning

Wednesday morning was frosty and foggy.
The light was right, and I thought I could get some interesting pictures.

But I wasn't getting a lot of cooperation from my favorite subjects.
The low clouds amplified the sounds of the range, and everybody was a little bit distracted.

George: I think we're under attack.

Me: You've heard coyotes howl before. Just relax.

George: Easy for you to say, short ears.

  1. Frost on a cactus ... what a great photo!! (Around here, the 'range' means Quantico, up the road, and a low cloud ceiling amplifies their 'howling', too ... if, by howling, I mean artillery fire.)

  2. One of the many things I love about your blog is its utter foreign-ness. Coyotes are almost* unheard of in West Somerset!

*'almost' is a bit of a fib. Substitute 'never'.....

  5. Our German Shepherd's ears are quite large as well, and I've often wondered how amplified sounds are to her. She's constantly listening. She hates the UPS truck and starts barking before I even know he's coming down the road!! :)

  6. Aww, sweet George. Did you give him a butt scratch and remind him that donkeys can kill those stinkin' coyotes?

  8. The heat is on. It's cold outside and soon it will be Christmas. Our furry friends are growing coats for the season and I'm getting out my warmest coat, gloves and hat. What happened to summer? Tempus fugit!

    Best always,

  11. I saw BIG ears the other day! A mule deer on the accountant's lawn...and one on his neighbour's lawn...and then....another on the lawn across the street! In the middle of the city.... I have no idea what was happening, but the place seemed littered with deer...

I was almost afraid to get out of the car in case I made them angry ... not wanting to scare them into doing something silly...
Check them out on my blog if you have time...so cute...
