The Ranchsitter Report, September 9, 2013

These pictures and accompanying narrative arrived in my email box Monday night.
As if Danni didn't have enough to keep her busy, she found time to document her day.
I'll be quiet now so she can tell you all about it.

***

Today started out normally enough. I'm pleased to report that there were no snakes or giant flying bugs.
After feeding everyone, I decided to finally spread some of the manure that we'd been collecting:

Why does it not surprise me that butterflies land on poop at the 7MSN?
That really lends a magical touch, don't you think?

There is something very satisfying about this chore...

Then the phone rang. Mr. Hay Man decided today was the day to deliver 216 bales:

Since we weren't expecting this to happen today, first I needed to move 36 compressed hay bales
out of the hay barn to make room for the new stuff. Not only did Mr. Hay Man help me with this...

...he almost single-handedly stacked all the new stuff in the hay barn! I was so thankful!
(What a beautiful sight a barn full of hay is:):

After this, I was ready for a bit of play. So was Johnny Cash. We played with string:

And we experimented with a catnip ball:

Eugenia was fascinated:

And then, this evening, even though the sun was still shining, it began to rain.
It didn't stop Wynonna from dining on the terrace:

Smooch and I have decided to call it a day. This is what the evening has in store for us:

  1. Poop spreading, hay stacking, pig feeding, cat playing. Obviously ranch sitters do not have to worry about getting bored at 7MSN. Great post.

  2. Danni, what does your "normal" life bring you? You seem to take everything in stride!

  7. Quite a day Danni. I'm glad Hay-man helped to stack the bails. What a job in the heat. Looks like he's done it many times before with those arms. There is never a dull moment down at the ranch. So glad you are there to lend a hand.
    Best always,

  8. Danni is a photographer, an author, and now an old snake wrassler and farm hand, to boot! And, a very good friend.

  9. I know Danni has her own family and farm, but really, Carson, can't we keep her? Please, please, can't we?

And what about you? Anxious for an update, especially a really positive one!

  10. Um, excuse me Ms Carson! Are you taking applications for ranch sitters?!? ;)
I wonder how long it will take for Johnny Cash cat to move into the house :D

  18. Ranchsitter: What a beautiful post -- you're the last of the good guys!

  19. Sounds like your critters are being cared for in loving, very capable hands. It's hard enough to find a ranch/farm sitter let alone one like Danni who goes beyond! Hope you are feeling better too!

  23. How is Johnny Cash Cat taking to the loss of his hay bale penthouse?

    ReplyDelete
  24. You and Smooch are doing such an excellent job of ranchsitting, you deserve a free week in Puerto Vallarta or whatever your heart desires. How did the No Bake turn out?

    Cheers,

  25. There is indeed something wondrous about a full hay barn. Bet it smells delightful too.

Johnny Cashcat has gotten very friendly and comfortable at the 7MSN.

My two cats react in polar opposite ways to catnip. One mellows out and the other revs up, actually just an enhancement of their usual modes.

    Good job, Danni.

  26. Danni, you're a wonder! Thanks for sharing your day. Give Carson a gentle hug for me!

  27. That last shot made me laugh - Smooch is obviously wondering what the heck she's supposed to do with the bottle of wine! Thanks for the report, Danni, and get well soon Linda.

  28. With all that Danni is accomplishing (including blogging for you), I'd say she is setting the bar really high for future ranch sitting cowgirls. Just the snake and big bugs woulda been enough but all the other tasks and fun stuff as well. Gosh it must make you rest easier knowing everything is okee dokee at 7MSN. Be well soonest Ms. LC

  29. Oh yes, a barn full of hay makes for a beautiful picture but I think Mr Hay Man should have had a larger photo! Love me a man with plenty of muscle! Ha! You have some mighty handsome perks for being a ranch sitter.

  30. Love the Johnny photos and of course Smooch at the end.

I guess this means you are still in the lovely hospital. Sorry to hear that.

    xo,

Just what you needed, Danni, a nice quiet day along with some treats for you and Smooth. Although Smooch probably isn't much of a wine drinker. I am wondering how much longer it's going to be before Johnny Cat becomes indoor Johnny Cat. He certainly has made progress. Now, if Linda would get well and out of the hospital all would be right in that part of the world.

  37. You've certainly had your work cut out for you and you've done an admirable job of rising to the challenge(s). It's nice to have warm furry bodies to relax with at the end of a long day. Incidentally, Mr. Hay Man sounds like a particularly good guy and he wasn't too hard to look at either...

Here's hoping you enjoy a dull, boring day today!

    ReplyDelete
  38. All I know is city girl Ethel would be ready for a nap after the hay! Danni you are awesome!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I wasn't looking at any hay that is for sure...and I think you need more wine. Good job on the crap.
    Get well Carson!

    ReplyDelete
  40. AND the hay man! Carson may just take an extra day away if you keep doing such a good job! Love the playful JCC.

  42. Dear Danni, thank you so much for this blog feed about your adventures at 7MSN! Gives us all a good feeling about how life is going on out there...no day is EVER the same is it!! There was a little glimpse of Mr. Hay Man, who looked like some nice eye candy, but his best feature was his kindness and muscle about the hay bales, a big chore. Fun to see Johnny Cashcat playing like a normal (not feral!) cat with a darting string and catnip...is he enamored with Catnip?? My own cat could care less, but I've had one or two that are instant addicts. Haha! Hope your own evening went well and that the cheesecake goes good with wine! And that you and Smooch got a well deserved night of rest!!

Linda, hope you are healing up well...good for you to know the herd is holding up well, too!

Mr Hayman .... we might need to see a few more pics of him .... just sayin.
Get better Linda, we miss you.
