The little drummer boy

My work day was interrupted too many times to count yesterday by the sounds of incessant drumming.
I knew what was going on – someone was banging the bottom of a feed tub – but I didn't know who to blame.
Every time I walked outside to look, the drumming stopped.

Me: Who's the wiseass making all the noise?
George: Not me.
Alan: Not me.
Lucy: Of course it's not me, and I'm insulted that you would even think that.

George: She knows it's me, doesn't she?

Alan: Pretend you're sleeping. Maybe she won't notice you.

It took a few more trips to the barn, but I finally caught the aspiring musician in the act:

  1. Reminds me of when my girls were little. No matter what it was, no one ever was doing it.

I was out on a country drive over the weekend, and I saw a mixed herd of horses and burros and donkeys. One in particular had the same sweet expression that your Lucy has. It made me smile.

  2. There is a nice beat to it but I can see where it would get to you in no time at all. Bet Johnny and June wonder what's going on in the feed room!

  4. Time to pass out the maracas to the rest of the herd. That's a fine sound (especially from here).

  5. Tell George I was nodding to the beat. :)

  6. That was great! I showed Jay and he said he thought he was trying to help you tip it over to eat...they are so smart.

  7. Did John (and maybe even June) join in?

  8. LOLOL And he can carry the beat with both hooves! You need to take George on "Who's Got Talent?"!

  9. Perhaps you should hang some copper pipes of different diameters and see if he can be a wind chime, too! Put a jolly ball on the ringer and let him have at it. Just make sure that it is a sound you would like to hear for eight or so hours straight.

  10. Oh yet another funny funny post from the barn. How do you get any work done in the house?

  11. Somehow it reminded me of the GoGos"You got the Beat" George is funny and talented. Imagine how he would do with a xylophone!

  12. Poor George was just trying to flip that tub over to get to that last piece of hay under there. ;)

  13. No wonder those cats won't come out!

  14. I don't know how you get any work done. Maybe this is why Justina leaves the house to work. lol George has a pretty good beat going there, maybe need to add a guitarist to the mix.

  15. As I laughed I could only imagine Johnny and June thinking that no, it wasn't a good idea to go out there, ever!

  16. Just when we think we have seen all the hidden talents of your equines, they go and show us new tricks. I would go mad in a couple of minutes of that racket. But it did have two very distinct rhythms...maybe he was trying to help Lucy by giving her a Zumba beat to work out...or maybe for Alan or Hank to get into the groove. Probably not but it sounded good. Oma Linda and Ry

  18. My first thought was..hope there's not a cat under it...

  19. you're generous calling that his musical stylings...i see someone sure there is a hidden treasure of the edible kind underneath the darn tub and come hell or high water, that tub is gonna turn over and that delicious treasure will me eaten, immediately...someday. or until "mom" feeds us again. donkey diligence. nothing to mess with, both awesome and cringeworthy. meanwhile, let's dance!

  20. Maybe he was just trying to get the cats to come outside and play.

  21. Hahahahahahahaha! That made me smile :-)

  22. George has a fine sense of rhythm. Perhaps the others could also learn to play, and with Johnny and June they could go on tour and you could retire.
