Smooch smells a rat

It was a dark and stormy night. Not really. But it was dark, and "stormy" adds the right amount of drama to our story.
Anyway, I was in the house and Smooch was on the back porch. I kept hearing the sounds of furniture being rearranged.
I tried to ignore them, but my curiosity got the better of me. I grabbed the camera and went outside.

It was a chaotic scene...until I figured out how to use the flash.

Me: Smooch, why is the table askew and the cushions on the ground?

Smooch: Trespasser. Must find.

Smooch: He's back here somewhere, I can smell him.

Me: Maybe it's the Easter Bunny?

Smooch: Nope. The Easter Bunny wouldn't fit back here. I'm guessing a packrat.

Me: Stand back. I'm going to move the bench away from the wall.

Me: Eeewwwww. Definitely not the Easter Bunny.

  3. What a good girl Smooch is for warning you of that intruder! I think I would have been more vocal then you upon finding him, and there sure as heck wouldn't have been a picture!

  5. Did you notice you captured the elusive creature in the photo "he's here somewhere I can smell him"?

    Or a smidge of him?

  8. Now, we KNOW you didn't stop taking pictures at that point! Where is the rest of the story? Is Smooch fast enough to outrun a frightened rat? Are you stable enough to shoot the action? So many questions!!

  9. I have always thought that pack rats were cute with their big ears...except when in my house stealing shiny things and using my dishes as their own personal toilet. Then they are not cute AT ALL!
I'm curious to know what happened next as well. Especially since I know you do not even kill snakes.

  10. You guys are astute - I had not noticed the tail...the perils of blogging on a 13" screen.

The end of the story was boring - the rat ran off into the darkness, Smooch did not catch him, and neither did my camera.

  16. The first picture is the perfect lead in for the beady eyed ending. It's fun to see Smooch's security stances. I bet she had busy dreams.
