Now I know why people hire decorators

I have spent the last two Saturdays driving around New Mexico,
shopping for the perfect furniture and accessories for my soon-to-be-constructed sunroom.

I have bought nothing. Shopping in person is exhausting, and shopping online for furniture doesn't seem practical
when UPS doesn't deliver to 7 miles south of nowhere. What's a person to do?

I know what I like. I know what I want. I just don't know where to buy it.

After yesterday's trip to Albuquerque, I know of alot of places not to buy it.

So the new room may sit empty for awhile.

I'd rather look at the scenery than furniture anyway.

  1. There's a place here in town that sells pretty cool stuff.... Maybe I should bring some that way :-)

  2. Absolutely beautiful! Who needs furniture when you can lean up against the truck and look at those views. Happy hunting Carson!

  6. You're on the ball. I think it's still Saturday night here.:)
These pictures...WOW... wide open spaces, I guess. Were they taken close to your house? I agree that this beats shopping.
    Sorry your truck is empty.

  7. If you know what you want, save yourself a bunch of money and buy it from one of the furniture companies in High Point, NC. I saved thousands of dollars buying online and shipping it by a commercial carrier (not UPS) when I bought high end leather furniture as well as my office furniture.

  10. Frontgate, Crate and Barrel, Pier 1, World Market, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware. I shop on-line first, study options, request fabric samples, and when it 'looks' right, and the fabric is ok, I make a trip to go and see/purchase. Saves the body/money/time. Perhaps if you find something online or on eBay, you could appeal to someone in the city to receive it for you? Maybe it can be shipped to UPS and held for pick-up? Good luck!

  11. That's exactly my problem when I shop for anything. I know what I want, but I can't find it anywhere. I gets SO frustrating!

  12. When the time comes the furniture will too. May need to have the space first before that happens.

I think you should make your own....I'm sure it would be outstanding. When we cut down some trees around the house I stripped and did a little sanding, added some poly on top and we have a really different table and some end tables. I plan on make some more this summer, you can even sit on them. The last picture I can see a number of tables. (only use trees that need to come down, this one is beautiful. Hugs

  14. You seem to lean toward traditional/girlie western.
Tried out any antique stores? Go to Ebay and search to see what's out there. You probably can't find what you're looking for because it's not "in" right now: sometimes , when you aquire one unusual piece you love, the rest is easy. Steve over at An Urban Cottage has lots of decorator bloggers who might have resources... or maybe Pioneer Woman has a source.

  15. I don't like buying tack on line, because you often can't tell about the true quality. So I often do my research on-line, then have a local tack store order it in, so I can take a look before I actually buy. They're usually pretty easy about doing it that way. I wonder if a local furniture store would do the same?
Thunder Ridge's idea (commercial carrier) also makes a lot of sense for large items like furniture...

  16. All good things come to she who waits. But, I do like Estella's idea. If you can build a chicken house, you can build anything!

  17. Can they deliver to an intown address and you can pick up?

Looking forward to what treasures you find. Take your time, there can be joy in the hunt.

  18. Two ideas--come to Texas to shop or shop online and have the stuff delivered to Justina's house. (Hi Justina! Glad I offered your house??)

  19. I have no idea what you have in mind...but if you want one-of-a kind furniture...try Andy and Aaron Sanchez. They are a family business in Algodones. True artists. They made our kitchen table about seven years ago. I would buy more from them if I had the money!

  20. oh no! You can't order online?? That SUCKS! Did you try IKEA? They ship everywhere...probably not exactly what you are going for though!

  21. Well I am not a decorator, and need to redo my house. But as long as you have a chair and a table, you can have an empty room as long as you like. Just think of the possibilities of an empty room.
    1. Less to clean. Just swipe floor with a mop.
    2. Room to toss a toy for Smooch on those nasty days.
    3. Certainly LESS DUSTING to do.
    4. Won't be tripping on the edge of a piece of furniture because you bought to much.
    5. Throw down a mat, and you have an exercise area.
    6. Turn up the stereo and you have a dance floor.
    7. The free space will allow your mind to become creative.
I can only come up with 7, but I know there has to be more.

We are turning ours into a bar! LOL NOT that we drink, but at least it is a place for hubby and friends to congregate, INSTEAD OF IN THE KITCHEN while I am trying to cook! LOL
