Before all the harassment started

Now that we've reaffirmed that George and Alan are troublemakers at heart,
I thought you might like to see what happened before what happened happened.

Sunday's photo shoot started innocently enough. I climbed up on the fence rail,
if for no other reason than to pretend I was really as tall and thin as my shadow.
George was the first to come over to greet me.

Me: George, what do you think you're doing?
George: Trying to get your attention.
Me: You've got it.

He stood there between my feet for the longest time without a care in the world,
so I threw caution to the wind and sat down.

Me: Well, George, here I am sitting on your back. Didn't expect that to happen today. Or ever.

As I sat there contemplating whether George is big enough to become a saddle donkey, I was rudely interrupted.

Me: Lucy, what do you think you're doing?
Lucy: Trying to get your attention.
Me: You've got it.

Then I looked down at Hank and thought that I might be able to get a nice black and white photo of him
against the simple background of the dirt.

Then he got bored and went down for a nap, and we all know what happened after that.
But if you missed it, look here and here.

  2. It appears to me that Hank is admiring his tall thin shadow...

  3. George would be an adorable saddle donkey! How about using a bareback pad on him? They are light weight, and if you get one with a suede leather on it, they really grip and keep you from slipping off.

  4. I have three of these and just love them. They cost a bit more than your average bareback pad, but sooo worth it.

  5. I think Lucy wanted to go for a ride and she wasn't letting that brat take her place. There is a pecking order and she is asserting her rights.
    Animals are funny!
    Best always, Sandra

WELL??? What happened with George? Did George buck you off? Did Lucy nose you off? We know you were back standing on the pipe fence for the harassment photos, but how did George react with weight on his back? I bet George just thought it was another of mom's great hugs.... but different.

  9. Count me in on all the "sitting on George" "excitement"!

  10. I think George standing there for a long time was his way of telling you he wants you to sit, and could he please graduate to big boy and give Miss Lucy a run for the money. What's the verdict, is he big enough to be a riding donkey? When I was in Mexico years ago most of the donkeys were his size, and they were ridden and packed.

  11. Do you think Lucy was jealous that you were sitting on George?

  12. The Carson-eye-view of George's first ride may not be as cute and the harassment sequence, but this is BIG NEWS! Another saddle donk (not to be confused with saddle bronc, obviously).

  13. A very cute herd. I always wonder how you keep Hank so clean. Ours are such pigs they're forever caked in mud.

  14. WOW! George doesn't want Lucy to have all of the fun. Maybe, you could ride one and use the other to carry bones back. Pretty soon you'd be going out for a ride with everyone in tow.

I think Miss Lucy was jealous...that's alright a little jealous isn't a bad thing. Your critters are just so darn cute. Hugs to all

  16. I couldn't have resisted such a temptation either. Does this mean a saddle in George's future? Of course you'd have to take Alan along with you, I can't imagine the two if them apart.

  17. Poor Hank! He took it well! Those little rascals!!! I love that final B&W!

  18. Omg, you were on George?!?!

  19. Well, the problem is you couldn't take George anywhere without Alan, so you'll have to break them to ride tandem, wherein you stand with one foot on each back and gallop across the countryside. Yeeehah! Would be hard to take pictures at the same time, though, you'll need a photographic assistant to travel along on Lucy. And since Lucy's already accustomed to packing bones, she could help pick up the pieces and bring them home.

  20. Here's how I see it: The corral is the school playground. Hank is the biggest, oldest kid in the class and he likes to lay in the dirt. George and Alan are the little bullies who pick on him, and Lucy is the schoolyard monitor, who is bored with her job. You, Linda, are the Principal who shows up after everything's over and says, "break it up, you guys, and get back in the barn!".
    Love your photograph-stories!
