George and Alan put on their game faces

If you've been visiting here for any length of time, you're used to seeing Hank always looking handsome,
Smooch always looking alert, and Wynonna always looking like ... a pig.
The backgrounds and lighting might change, but their faces? Pretty much the same every time I post a picture.
George and Alan are a different story. They have more expressions than most people I know.

First, we have the wide-eyed look of surprise:

Followed by the teeth-baring "I'm fiercer than you" face:

Then we have the tight-lipped look of determination:

Let's not forget the "I'm adorable but I'm about to take a chunk out of his shoulder" look:

I'm not sure what to call this one:

This is Alan's "don't forget me back here, I'm cuter than him" look:

This face is all about righteous indignation:

And this one? If Alan were a person, I think he'd be shocked and awed:

  1. Such personalities. I'm still amazed. I have to agree with Alan, though, he takes the grand prize for cuteness---but it IS close!

  2. I think the one that you don't know is: "This is my demented camel imitation".

  6. A question: How conversational is your crew? El burros, especially. I ask because our common excuse for not having donkeys is that we live in an area of small acreages, and we rely on the good graces of fairly close neighbours. Our two horses are nearly silent, but our two goats complain at anyone who cares to listen...they just aren't terribly loud. The dogs bark at strangers, etc. Do Alan, George and Lucy bray a lot?

  7. You are right your photos of your boys have so much personality and emotion. The face in question is possibly my favorite...sorta looks like a valley girl accented OMG look.
And did I miss it before or is today the first day that Mr. P is a headliner???? So cute. But the palace girls are gonna have something to say about the usurper of their spot.

  8. I'm not sure if that is a face of extreme pleasure, of extreme determination or of extreme shock. Nonetheless, they are fun! If I had the money, space and time, I would love to adopt some.

  9. I love your blog! I've been reading for a few months. I think Selma from Selma in the CIty featured your blog on her fave from the week once and I popped over and I can really see why it made the fave of the week. Your photographs are wonderful, your animals have the cuteset personalities and I agree with Anne that he looks like a demented camel ! They look like so much fun to watch and take care of. Keep it up I love seeing pics!

  13. I keep coming back to see the pictures again when I want a pick-me-up. They are so much fun! George is very expressive, but no one can flare nostrils like Alan. Their personalities just shine through.
