Monday Morning at the Movies

My parents are among the most avid readers of this blog – it's like visiting the ranch without all the hassle of traveling. Last week, my mom mentioned how much she loves watching the little videos I post and she suggested I make more of them. The snowball started rolling downhill from there, and the next thing I knew I was buying one of those new-fangled Flip cameras. Then I started thinking that a weekly video feature might be fun, and then Lucy agreed to help.

So let's get started. Roll 'em!

p.s. The smoke we saw is from a wildfire that's 20 miles away. We're not worried.

  1. What fun! I love going for the ride, although admit I did get somewhat dizzy there for a bit, ha!

I guess you do have some serious winds.

  2. I've always loved that song...

Great dust storm. Reminds me of living in Arizona. cough cough cough.. :-)

  5. Yee-haw! What fun! Gaiting did make me a little dizzy from the video, but I could certainly see how smooth she was from your shadow just gliding along.

And loved her fuzzy ear rubs. What a wonderful donk she is!

  6. Looks like you and Lucy are enjoying one another and your rides. Nice video of the ride, that's some really old music. Haven't heard it since I was a tyke. Glad you're having fun riding again.

  7. A smooth gait is a million dollar ride. I enjoy the videos too. Sometimes check out Templeton Thompson's songs about riding such as "Must have been a cowbody". Congrats on two pictures picked from PW. A big compliment.

  8. Hooray, thanks Grandpa and Grandma, for having Linda do more videos!
One of my best friends owned a pair of Tennessee Walkers--we'd get them going and have such a ball. "Walka-walka-walka-walka"

  9. How fun! What's the furthest you've traveled so far? Will you be getting off the ranch soon with your fabulous girl?

Hmmm. You know you aren't that far from cloud croft. There are some lovely rides through the mountains there...

  10. I love this new video feature.

I'm so glad you caught some of the winds. We were out having a picnic in spite of it, but had to leave when the dust got in our eyes and ears!

THANK YOU for more videos...I'm all for them. Enjoy seeing all the kids in motion. Yesterday was about the worst wind we've had here in years (western Co.). Thought about bringing the minis in the house. Have a good day and hugs and kisses to the kids.

  13. Ooooh, film gives such a new dimension to the critters that still shots cannot convey. Can we get some George and Allan interaction pleeeeease?

  14. A regular video feature is a great idea! I'm so glad Lucy has turned out to be your perfect riding companion. Congratulations to Hank on his 15 minutes of fame at PW. Don't go all Hollywood on us!

  15. I loved the ride along. And then getting to see Handsome Hank and then the sweet Boys. Wow a triple feature...but the star of the show is quite possibly the cutest donkey girl in the whole state. Glad you guys were far enough away from another ugly fire.
And then......ugly wind....it was kinda scary too. We lost our flower bower in the backyard and goodness only know where some of the fairy houses blew away too. We musta had a down draft...oh well, that's springtime in NM. The Olde Bagg

  16. I'm looking forward to more videos.
Lucy's ears are so cute from the saddle view. She almost looks like she has double ear tips!

  17. Ahhh that was so nice to watch! Good thing you got inside before the dust storm. Caught myself holding the poodle's leashes like reins when we went for a walk yesterday. They don't know gee and haw yet!

  18. Was dizzy also, but toatly enjoyed the ride. And seeing the dust storm was neat. Just something I haven't experienced up here in northern Michigan.

  19. Just getting caught up. Lucy looks like such a wonderful ride. Glad to hear the wildfire isn't any threat to the 7MSN. Hope it dies out soon, regardless.

  20. Great video. I see bushes, sand, and more sand. Where do you get your hay/grass from?

  21. Love the videos! Also, loved the photo in group 6 on Pioneer Woman - Congratulations!

  22. Been out of the loop with loss of electricity for a day. I'm so glad to see there was no fire danger where you are. That wind was something. I had to get up at 4AM to start a fire in the stove because it was 25 outside, then I put all the freezer stuff outside to keep cold, made coffee on the wood stove. Have a great day, it lloks like the wind is over for a while!

  23. I like the idea of more videos! (Thanks grandma and grampa!) I sure hope the wind is blowing the smoke away from your place!

  24. Yayyyyy!!! I am sure GLAD YOU listen to your mom!! LOVE the video and seeing all the donkeys and Hank! Loved the shadows of YOU and YOURS!!! Thanks!!!

  25. Breathe, Lucy and I have ridden off the ranch about a dozen times; the longest ride was about 5 miles. She (and I) are building up our endurance for longer rides ... when the wind stops.

IanH, I get my hay from a grower who has a farm about 40 miles west of me, where the land is green and irrigated.

  26. I wrote my first comment kind of early this morning. I meant to say that I was glad you were able to catch some of that wind IN YOUR VIDEO, because people who don't live in New Mexico would never be able to picture the full drama of it all!

  27. I think your parents are right on! A weekly video is good...I love'em! Especially when you add words because it makes a story, and I can watch them at work! Teehee..I know it is my little bit of release...I only watch on my break though...:)

  28. Thank you so much for the ride-along! I loved every second of it. Love the song, too - takes me back to childhood when my folks had several GREEN 45s with this and other cowboy songs, like "Cool Water".

  29. Your videos show what a dependable and smooth ride that Lucy is. I really enjoy the videos. We've had some terrible winds here. Yesterday from the south. Today from the north. It's great that your parents are your biggest fans...my mother has never used a computer!

  30. Great suggestion, Mom! This sure put a smile on my face on a dreary NJ Monday!

  31. Awesome, my signature song too. Loved seeing Hank at PW.

  32. love the videos: especially th soundtracks and "narration;"

I got me one of them new fangled flip cameras, too. I LOVE it. I am about as low tech as they come and I am able to shoot and share my precious sweets with a push of a button!

  33. Beautiful! Seriously. The music was a perfect accompaniment.
Though, instead of champagne glasses, I think you should balance a tray of your famous margaritas. :-)

  34. Oh. I LOVE this! Lucy cam!
