Down the Road with Smooch ~ September 2010

Every day, almost without fail, Smooch and I go for a walk. It's a toss-up as to who enjoys it more. For Smooch, it's an opportunity to sniff out what's happened around the fenceline in the past 24 hours; for me, it's an excuse to step away from the keyboard during, or after, a crazy day.

I usually don't take my camera but have decided that once a month it will be worth the extra weight around my neck to record our walk for posterity. Assuming I follow this regimen every month, and assuming I remember to blog about it, and assuming I still have a blog, it will be fun to look back on the chronicle of Smooch-walks through the ages when I'm old and gray older and grayer.

  8. Your photoshop skills are amazing! I can't believe you had the nerve to say anything about maybe NOT having a blog in the future! That would be a sad, sad day Carson.

  9. 81* + 35% humidity can mean it's a tad bit sticky.

    I love "Wait, Wait".

  10. Nothing makes a walk or a hike better than sharing it with a dog.

  11. I really enjoyed your post. Loved reading about temp, wind (is it always windy there?) and what you were listening to. One of my favorites!

  16. Great idea. It's interesting what might be ho-hum everyday-ish to us...other folks love to read about. Never a dull idea out there, just opportunities to record it sometime go down the tubes!

  17. I slid back and forth a time or two myself! :)
Logging your walks is such an incredible idea!

  18. Great idea! Is Smooch the kind of dog you can let run loose while you walk? Or is she like mine, he wouldn't come back no matter how much I begged him to.

  19. I enjoy walks like that and my dog loves it. Dogs make a walk better.

  20. Sphinx, Smooch is on a leash at all times once we go out the gate. There's no way I can keep her from chasing jackrabbits. And cows. And antelope. And snakes. She's a very good walker, though, and stays by my side except for the occasional arm-out-of-the-socket pull when she sees something chaseworthy.

  21. She is so beautiful. I love Smooch.

I always walk my dog on a leash. He's a terrier (terror) and a butterfly is enough to send him off and away forever. Also his looks scare some people and I think it's best for his breed to always be on leash. Even though he's a people lover and at worse might sit on someone's feet to hold them captive and get some petting.

  22. Oh My GOODNESS!!! The last photo was an absolute hoot!! I'm pretty sure I could have worn out the mouse by rolling over it a few thousand times!! I love to go walking with my mini Border Collie; she loves to explore and pretends to be quite "ferocious", all the while hiding behind momma while barking?? Love the photos!!
