The dog days of summer ~ 2010

How dare this oppressive summer heat interfere with our daily routine. The nerve. It was so hot last evening that Smooch and I were forced to cancel our walk. Instead, we hung out in my room, where the light was picture-perfect.

Even indoors, Smooch takes her role as ranch security very seriously.

Heaven forbid something should happen outside without her knowing about it.

Smooch, it's okay to relax once in awhile, really it is.

That's better. We'll work on getting you to close your eyes another time.

  1. WOW, what fantastic pictures of Smooch ... she's such a pretty girl and so serious about her ranch duties!

I can relate to the oppressive heat ... being house bound sucks!

By the way, I really like your quilt.

  2. Hopefully, Smooch is on guard against real things. Ours go ballistic over nothing. We let them out and they stand there, barking, looking around for something (anything) to bark at.

  3. Oh how I love quilts! I have about six, and only one bed, so I rotate them. I wish I had 7 bedrooms and a quilt on every single bed!
Oh, sorry Smooch you look very good too!

  5. Very good pictures. I love the softness of Smooch's tones and the light filtering in.
Look at her eyes watching you. Reminds of the saying "Help me be the person my dog thinks I am".

  10. Smooch is right to be vigilant. There are bunnies everywhere.

What are her thoughts on the Chicks?

  15. She is adorable. Your animals all have so much personality but it's because you interact with them, you treat them with respect and it shows. Boy golly does it show!

  16. Smooch sure is a beautiful guard dog! It's nice to have one that knows how to snuggle too. :)

  17. Atta girl Smooch. Your mom just doesn't understand the pressure you are under to stay ever vigilant, stalwart. She may be the money/brains behind the ranch but any four-legged knows who is really in charge of the integrity of the perimeter. You, my dear.

    Carry on.

  18. "But Mom, I have work to do!!"

(Oh, dear! My WV is impudent - I kid you not!)

  19. Our neighbor's dog looks a lot like Smooch but is nowhere near as well loved. She's let her out all alone in a yard surrounded by busy streets and expected to survive. Yesterday, I spoke with her person without taking his head off. I hope he got the message.

  20. I hope you're going to label all these posts that you manipulate tne pictures in w/ the Photoshop label. Someday I'm going to splurge and buy PS, and then I'm going to spend time going back through all your pictures that you've "improved" for helpful hints and tricks!

  23. Smooch is very statuesque. Tell her she is far to regal to be living on a ranch in the NM desert...lol...just kidding! : )

Looks like Smooch is not only a good security guard but also quite photogenic. Love her eyes, our white dog has intense golden brown eyes like that. Sometimes it feels like he is trying to hypnotize me.
