Things to love about January*

1.

2.

3.

*This list comes straight from the shoeblox blog, as the snow and cold have sapped every ounce of creativity and humor from my bloodstream.

The temperature did warm up to a balmy 40 degrees on Tuesday, replacing many inches of snow with many inches of mud. Another storm is expected to roll in this afternoon.

Even Deets is entertaining thoughts of moving to a warmer climate.

  1. Winter is getting really OLD around here too. Just when you think it's over we get hit with another storm, and ooooh where is the sun? I am so looking forward to spring!

Poor Deets, I bet he's wondering what in the heck has happened.

  2. I feel your pain. But we are on the downside of January. And I also look at February as a short month. Deet does look cold.

  3. I share your sentiment. After 2-1/2 weeks of waaay above normal temps, I woke to 3 degrees and 25 mph winds.

That'll frost your fanny in no time.

  4. Cats like it hot!
    Me too!
    Best always, Sandra

  5. So.....if you're 7 miles south of nowhere, what is south of you?

  6. Fully concur with you! Here in South FL we had about a week+ of nights in the 30s and days in the 60s! This morning it was in the high 40s. Not pleasant at all...

  7. Deets is looking for you. And his tail is turning into a cork screw! I'm with you.......January is no fun.

  8. Poor Deets! Plz, plz let him in....

  9. Sweet Deets! Can't he just come in the laundry room for a little bit, mom?

  10. Many inches of snow... many inches of mud... This sounds way too much like the New Hampshire winters I left behind. We don't have snow on the ground in Las Cruces, so I really have no complaints.

But I can't wait for spring!!!

  11. We've had that same messy thaw here, but it meant the roads were clear, and I actually hauled out to a little indoor and RODE! this week!

I figure the beginning of January as the "middle" of winter: Nov.-Dec. going in, and Jan.-Feb. coming out--by March, even with late storms, you KNOW it's spring! And besides, we had our semester break day Monday, which means the school year is officially half over, too.
[btw, Ognen--DON'T let me hear you whine about 40!]

  12. Hmm, what to love about January? Baking and making soups and crock pot meals? Yes and no. Yummy, but come summer I'll be miserable looking in the mirror trying on bathing suits.
Deets is the coolest cat around. I need to get some of my outdoorsy kittahs if only they would leave the warmth of the barn and actually do something.

  13. I feel your pain. Poor Deets.

I'm reminded of something the Inuit (Eskimo) struggled with when they were first introduced to the concept of Christianity. They couldn't understand why it was the sinners who got to go somewhere warm.

    Warm, toasty hugs, all 'round.

  14. That looks like my list too!
    I hate winter
    and mud
    and rain
    and ESPECIALLY- ICE AND SNOW!

  15. Poor cold Deets - of course he wants some quality sofa time! Really sweet picture of him there. Does he have any contact with the guys indoors?

  16. Awww... hoping for new warm weather headed your way.

  17. Slingback - only through the windows. I did try letting Snapper be an indoor/outdoor cat last summer and all he did was try to pick fights with Deets. Peace and harmony is best maintained with the current living arrangements.

  18. We've had cool but beautiful days here lately. But that will change, since the storm you're expecting today is supposed to hit us in the morning and go until Friday morning. We can use the snow! But I can sure understand your frustration with the cold-snow-mud thing.

  19. OK, OK....even though you didn't list anything (and who can blame ya) you took a picture of something many folks don't see in the winter...the SUN! I know, I know...it's evil because it melts the snow and the water creates the mud, but...the sun is something wonderful. Just close your eyes, conjure up a warm spring, summer or fall picture in your head and place the winter sun there. See now, don't you feel better? No? Oh, well ---stick your nose in a book, munch on a Wally cookie and keep saying to yourself, "There's no place like Tahiti, there's no place like Tahiti...!"

  20. OOh! I'm #20 to post! Ha ha :)
I feel for you when it comes to freezing temps! We here have had nights in the 30's and cold enough to snow but only get the rain!! I can take partly cloudy skies but when the wind picks up: no thanks cause it chills you to the bones!
Meanwhile, I hit the tanning beds to allieviate the "winter blues" from time to time. Sunshine is essential to keeping the blues away even if it's only thru a window?!

  21. I'm with you Deets. Lets head for warmer pastures!

  22. Yep. It is January. Here it is snowing. Because it is blowing, too, the snow is horizontal. Oh, yay. By tomorrow we are supposed to have two inches and 2 degrees. It is January.

  23. I don't mean to poke fun (but I will!). Those are the oddest icicles I've ever seen. They look like water trickles were frozen almost immediately -- and in a stiff breeze.

Your snowy mountain view looks gorgeous from the comfort of my warm office. :)

I'm no comfort at all am I?!!

  24. Oh Deets. Let him in to warm place....

  25. 1. Keeps the nasty bugs away.
    2. You can do things in the house that you wouldn't do when the weather is nice outside.
    3. Curl up on the couch with a good book and a fire.

I think that is just about all I can come up with;)

  26. ha ha ha!! this made me laugh!
Love the list...and Deets looking through the window!

  27. Awww, Deets wants to come master the interior of the homestead now that he's succeeded in owning the rest of the place!!

  28. Some of your weather is headed here tomorrow. A year ago today my electricity went off at ten in the morning and didn't come back until the following Tuesday afternoon. Ice storm of 2009 was a disaster of historic proportions.

I'll be happy for you all when the snow and mud are just memories. Days are getting longer. When that cold air mass moves on you will have a taste of New Mexico sun to come.

I know Deets can always scoot inside the kitty door out yonder if he wants respite. He is just working it for all it is worth!!
