When the cat's away, the mice will play

The cats of the 7MSN received a very special treat for Christmas from our friend Kim – a hand-crafted block of cheese, stuffed with catnip-filled mice. I hung it on a doorknob and the indoor cats, knuckleheads that they can be, ignored it. But I knew that Deets, still confined to the feed room, would probably find it quite entertaining.

First I had to get it past the security checkpoint.

Deets was quick to realize that felt mice taste a bit different than the varmints he's used to,

but he soon embraced his new toy...

and seemed grateful for the diversion.

Deets has endured his two-week convalescence in the feed room without complaint. This morning, we are off to the vet to have his sutures removed. I expect he will be taken off the disabled list and pronounced fit for active duty. He's ready to chase the real mice who have no doubt missed him while he's been gone.

  1. WOW, Kim made the cutest toy for the cats. Glad it gave Deets some amusement during his 'incarceration' and hope everything goes ok today so he gets his freedom back. Did the inside cats ever discover this prize of a present?

  2. I'm digging that cat toy! Santa brought our kitties one, bless that Santa, and hangs from my daughter's bedroom door and during the night you can hear our cat banging at it, plus it makes a chirping noise.
Anyway, so glad Deets is on the mend. I did not know he was hurt! I went back and read about it and just cracked up at your pictures. You are so funny!
Glad he is better the sweet boy!

  3. Good luck, Deets! Vet day here, too. Jaz goes back for what I'm hoping is his last ultrasound to see if the strongyles have evacuated.

  10. The catnip will make him feel better. I'm so glad he's healed up.

I know Deets might look buff because he has his winter coat, but still...when you post pictures of him moving he looks so muscular. And that plush fur. What a hunk!!

  11. Greetings from England. Your blog is wonderful. I am so jealous that you have donkeys. I love them, but my horse is terrified of them, and his needs must come first, as always. Maybe one day!

  12. I guess Deets by now is more than ready to get out. But he looks good though, in his shiny fur. Fingers crossed!

  13. First...import some real mice into the house so the knuckleheads can get ed-ja-cated. Deets can maybe catch a few for ya.

Deets..easy on getting back to the world. It still has horse hooves in it.
