Seasons change, and so do I

The return of the barn swallows woke me up to just how many other seasonal changes have happened in the course of one week. The day breaks around 5:30 now, and I'm out of bed before 6, willingly! I've stopped wearing my heavy barn coat to do morning chores. Time I would have spent doing woodstove chores is now spent in the garden. And there's enough light at the end of my work day to walk Smooch and ride Lyle.

But the most significant harbinger of spring around here happened this morning. The boys were not standing in the barn, waiting for me to come out and feed them. There is just enough grass popping up in the pasture for them to lose all sense of time.

Even Wynonna has something more to do than wallow around looking beautiful. Can you handle a double dose of the porcine princess this week? Here she comes again...

  1. Wynonna is such an inspiration to those of us who have reached a certain age! She doesn't worry about the occasional chin whisker...

  2. Great pictures. Wynonna looks like she's in deep thought, probably thinking about what exercise she's going to try this morning to keep her girlish figure.

  3. I've noticed similar changes with my clothing choices, as well. Unfortunately, I work in an air conditioned office and I've been freezing(!!) all week. *sigh*

Isn't it great when things just flow without seeming like any effort. I'm glad the boys have some sweet sprouts to nibble on.

I wanted to give Wynnona a smooch on the cheek this morning. She just seemed so up close & personal.

  7. It is so nice that Wynonna has blessed us with her presence twice this week.

Interesting how one chore is always replaced with another as the seasons come and go, but going lighter on the clothing is oh so nice.

  8. Just curious Linda, did you name Wynonna after a movie star and Lyle after famous musician.
I can almost smell the desert from your pictures. Thanks for making my day.
    Best always, Sandra

  9. Sandra,
Wynonna, Lyle, Hank, George, Alan, Willie, and Waylon (r.i.p.) and Emmy Lou (r.i.p.) were all named after their country-music counterparts.

  10. Oooooo, I miss the sky! And I wondered what time of the year there were some munchies for the horses in the pasture. I know "pasture" is a relevant term...but something growing, some edible in May is a good thing!

Have a terrific, peaceful spring-y weekend.

  19. I thought of you yesterday as that little gelding won the roses.
That trainer, Chip Woolley, is a perfect representative of New Mexico with his understated attitude, plain talk, and tough exterior.
I bet you guys are proud.
