Here's looking at you...Carson

Not to worry! You're in the right place. Welcome to the new, improved 7MSN blog.

A few months back, I finally dumped the old Blogger template and had someone create a new design for my home away from home. And it was ok, and I could post bigger pictures, but it just...wasn't...me.

This new look? This is me. I found a template that I could customize to my heart's content, deciding on the colors and the fonts and where to put all those gadgety things. Whew. I was in a full-scale identity crisis there for awhile. Not unlike the identity crisis I went through when I moved to New Mexico.

Throughout high school and for my entire adult life, my friends and colleagues always called me by my last name. Carson was who I was, not Linda. When I pulled up stakes and headed west, the people I met here didn't accept that. Despite my best attempts to tell them "my name is Linda but everybody calls me Carson," everybody in New Mexico called me Linda. They didn't get that Linda was not who I was. I finally gave up and tried to adjust. That was 16 years ago, and I couldn't just apply a new template and make everything right.

But today, I can apply a new template to my blog and go back to being myself. I can't begin to tell you how much better that makes me feel.

And as for Smooch? She calls me mom, and that's just fine with me.

  4. I like it! It's clean and loads quickly. That's who I am :-) I'd like to redo mine, but I'm lazy and have no money to pay anyone, so it stays as is, for now. If I could figure out how to do it in Dreamweaver graphic interface rather than having to mess with HTML, it wouldn't be a problem. I know only enough HTML to get me in trouble.

  5. Carson does seem to fit your previous lifestyle - tough and committed to the game. But it's sensible that you would be renamed during your rebirth into rancher-woman. And your new page layout is very nice. Thanks for all your time recording the events 7MSN.

  6. I really, really like the new look!

Funny about folks not calling you what you prefer to be called. Go figure ....

    Great close-up of Smooch.

  8. Carson? I like it. Makes me think of a self reliant woman living in the wilds of New Mexico taking care of her brood of animals and having lots of adventures..

  9. Love the new look. Yeah to much bigger pictures! It is so "you", CARSON. (Don't know why your neighbors are resisting this name. It's so Western. Like Kit Carson, a very famous New Mexico resident.)

  12. Wow, you're brave. I was SO incredibly nervous the first time I changed my template via Blogger. I would dearly like to be able to make my photos larger. I would be a basket case if I dropped that format altogether and went solo.

Just as an aside, I really liked the last version of 'you', but then I liked the previous one too. I also like that you're doing something to correct what didn't feel right for you and making it a better reflection of who 'you' are. Am I reading too much into this...?

When I was growing up, I felt it was the greatest compliment and expression of being noticed & liked, if someone called me by my last name. I guess because it implied a certain familiarity. It didn't happen very often.

  13. Carson,
THANK YOU I didn't want to say anything but I was disappointed with the other one. It never loaded quite right for me and that bummed me out because you're one of my favorite blogs!

  14. Hi Carson, I followed the link from 'A Glowing Ember'and I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed reading your posts and looking at your fabby pictures - your home area is VERY different to mine and you animals are great :)

If you want to be Carson, that's fine by me - I was called Pricey for years and, even though I've been married for 22 years (!) a few old friends still call me Pricey and I love it!

  19. Carson it is!

I have no problem with that; and being a native New Mexican let me just say that going by the name you feel most comfortable is fine with me!

In high school, I insisted that people remember to spell my name as
    V-I-K-K-I.

    Hence the nick-name KK.

It's been years since anyone has called me that, but I still run into a few call still me that when I bump into them on return trips back home. Some still call me Banana-Beak; but that's another story.

I lurve the new look. Bigger pics: yay!
