My theory on New Year's Eve

I've never been one to stay up late. Don't tell anyone, but I'm usually in bed by 9:30...at the latest. It's a ranch thing. When a certain vociferous pig starts bellowing before the crack of dawn, it's pointless to try to sleep in.

All of which is to say, today isn't one of my favorite holidays since it involves staying up way past my bedtime. But I have this theory about New Year's Eve which allows me to maintain my nightly routine yet ring in the new year to some small degree. New Year's Eve should be celebrated at midnight in the time zone you were born.

And seeing as how I was born in the Eastern time zone and I now live in the Mountain time zone, I can plant big sloppy kisses on all of my favorite boys at 10 o'clock tonight, then crawl peacefully under the covers and get a good night's sleep, ready to greet the dawn and a screaming pig tomorrow.

Happy New Year to all of you. May 2009 be filled with hope, good health and happiness for you and yours.

  1. That's a good theory...I haven't moved that far away from my origin of birth, so I'm stuck with midnight, it would seem. Fortunately, my critters are used to my sleeping in at every opportunity and have taken to feeding themselves. Very clever, these two. ;o)

  2. I like the time deducing method you've come up with. The only problem is I'm stuck in the East so I may have to stay up until midnight, but I doubt it.
Cute baby picture, love the hat!
Happy New Year to you and the gang, hope Wynonna lets you sleep a little tomorrow since it's a holiday.

  4. I'm with you--usually in bed about 9:30/10:00 pm and never stay up til midnight on New Year's Eve. I can wish all my critters a Happy New Year in the am. :-)

  5. Great theory, BUT I now live in the East and was born in the Midwest, soooo that doesn't work for me ... darn! I made it as far as 10:30 and then crashed, although neighbors shot off their fireworks at midnight scaring my pup half to death, soooo in a way I was up at midnight, but certainly not celebrating.

Happy New Year to all at 7MSN!! By the way, cute Baby New Year!!

I managed to make it to 10:30EST last night and that was enough animal management for 2008.

  8. Great picture! Happy new year!
I tend to be a bit of a night owl...I could be up until midnight every night if I didn't have to get up for work at 6:30! ;)
I was actually up until 2:30 last night. Not because I was out partying, I was just watching a movie. But I wasn't tired because I'd been sick and slept most of the day!

  10. I was born in the east too, but my way of ringing in the new year is by watching it on TV 2 or 3 hours earlier then it's to bed around the normal time... 9 or 9:30. Happy New Year!

  11. That's exactly what we do. I'm usually asleep by 10:30, but the ball in New York has been down for half an hour.

    Great picture.

  14. Cute pic!!!

I like your theory...but I was born in the same time zone I'm in...dang...so, we went to town for dinner with friends and thought we'd be home and in bed before midnight. Wrong! We danced the night away and didn't get home until 2 a.m.

    Of course at 6 a.m. I'm wide awake...I'm exhausted...it's 7 p.m. and I'm ready for bed!

    Happy New Year!!!

  16. It is a great theory but then I live in the time zone I was born in and even if I did get to bed I'd be woken even before midnight by the sound of all the fireworks going off all over the city and surrounding towns.

Never mind - happy new year.

  17. What a great idea! I was born in England so I could celebrate New Year at 6pm central time, and get it all over with early too! In case you didn't guess, I'm not a fan of New Year celebrations either :)
