Madeleine Pickens to adopt 30,000 BLM horses - no joke!

Update: Here's a link to a follow-up story with more details on Pickens' plan.

Check out this story in today's Washington Post. This is a dramatic turn of events for the wild horses and burros managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

  1. Wow - that's a grand and lovely gesture on behalf of the horses and burros.

  2. Whoa! That's pretty amazing. There's nothing like seeing a herd or band of wild mustangs out in the middle of nowhere. Truly amazing. Good for the Pickenses.

  4. I read your "about me" and could not have said it better myself, I will agree with you that jumping off the rat race gives you a whole new perspective in life well done to you, it takes courage to take that leap and after a short time you kick yourself for not doing it earlier , sounds like a great life you have there

  6. That's great news. I hope it all goes off without a hitch. I'm also hoping someone with some morals will come up with a plan to avoid this plight the horses and burros are in right now, so it doesn't keep happening. There are only so many white knights and heroes that can come riding to the rescue for the gross mismanagement of the BLM situation.

  7. It is great news...but, I am always hesitant in believing anything so good could really be true.

The condition of her taking any horses will hopefully include a sterilization process for all intact stallions.

It's rumored...again I say "rumored", that she just wants to make fancy condos where her fancy friends can come and see the horses in their natural environment...well, "natural" includes breeding and foals...sigh...I truly pray this is not the case.

  8. YEAH!!! What a great story. What bothers me is doesn't 21 million seem like a pittance compared to the 750 billion we're paying to bailing out stupid greedy people? I'd rather my money feed the horses.

  9. Well, I read another article this morning from the Washington Post and it stated that they would be sterilized prior to letting them loose on her "ranch."

I sure hope it can all come together!

  10. I agree with Karen - too good to be true probably is. It is a grand gesture to be sure, but there's an awful lot of variables in this scenario. I hope it all works out best for the animals.
