A conscious heart

We can only be said to be alive in those moments
when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.

  26. A little late reply, but I'm catching up on my blog reading...

I love the conscious heart idea. I used to have a signature line I modified from an ancient Arabian saying:

"My treasures do not clink together, nor glitter. They gleam in the sun, and bray in the night."

The original was the same except "neigh" was where "bray" was. And now that I have my horses, too, I can use either version! :-)

You know the ancient Arabs adored their horses, and let them sleep in their tents with them?

Many women friends in Los Angeles did not get me at all. I am so much more like those Arabs than I am like them (except hubby strictly prohibits the horses or donkeys in the house -- as I would if it were up to me!). I'm sure you know how that feels - especially when one drops a successful corporate career to move to the boonies (as I also did).

All of my donkeys were gifts to me from hubby - two for Christmas 2000and one was for my birthday in 20003. Some of those other women always screwed up their faces and made some remark like "why didn't he get you jewelry or something?" Even when I told them that there was nothing on earth that would be a better gift to me than the donkeys, they just didn't get it. Their loss. :-)

I am thankful every day for my equine friends.
